Surgical Counselor

POSITION SUMMARYOur Surgical Counselors are responsible for introducing and educating our patients on the cataract and LASIK surgery experience and are responsible for taking our patients through the process of preparing for the surgical day by coordinating scheduling, gathering needed documentation for pre-certification, providing patient education and knowledge of insurance carrier.Optometric Technicians, MAs and Opticians welcomed to apply!ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:Counsel and educate the patient about their upcoming surgery and lens optionsSet surgery dates, including all post-surgical/treatment appointmentsSend necessary paperwork to authorization specialist for eligibility, benefits and authorizationConfirm pre-certification from insurance carriers received prior to procedureDiscuss implant options and self-pay fees including financing optionsCollect fees for specialty lensesCollect co-insurance or co-pays when applicableIssue refunds for cancelled surgeriesCreate H&PsSend for Medical or Retinal clearance as necessaryObtain eyelid surgery authorizationsAnswer patient callsSend surgery operative notes, transfer of care letter, post-op form and post-op drop instructions to referring Optometrists (may be owned by Co-Man instead of Surgical Counselor)MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)High school diploma or general education degree (GED).At least two years of work experience in a medical office setting.Use of kindness, empathy and patience when dealing with our patient populationAttention to detailComfortable with sales aspect of specialty lensesAbility to multi-taskAbility to work as a team memberRequires skills in operating computers, EHR, word processing software, fax machines and copier machines.Cooperates and effectively communicates with all staff members and physicians about patient matters.Word processing software, Microsoft Word.Bilingual in Spanish preferredBENEFITSBenefits include Medical, Dental, Vision Discounts, 401(k) with company match, Life Insurance, Short Term & Long-Term Disability options, Employee Assistance Program, generous time off plans and company paid holidays.EVP EyeCare and its family of brands (including Dallas Eye Care Associates, PLLC, The Eye Academy of America, LTD, Swagel Wootten Eye Center LTDW, SWH Optometry PC, and Total Vision Eye Care Group LLP) is subject to, and intends to comply with, various federal, state, and local vaccination requirements and mandates.
