Business Associate A – Admitting and Throughput Part‑time (30 h per week), variable shift. Responsible for the business aspects of a patient's stay, as well as patient‑focused care within the Medical Center. Responsibilities Pre‑admit patients to the Medical Center, obtaining reservations, demographic, insurance and other data, discussing state regulations, and explaining admission expectations. Admit patients, verifying demographic and insurance information, signing forms, collecting deposits and obtaining authorizations as required. Act as liaison to insurance companies and the Medicaid Eligibility Office, screening requests for medical necessity, obtaining prior authorizations, pre‑certifying admissions, and assisting with document collection. Maintain census and charge data, update all prevailing systems and compile information for charge capture. Schedule appropriate tests, medical procedures, and follow‑up appointments. Assist in chart completion by maintaining and discharging charts in proper order, compiling deficiency data, and working with physicians to complete charts. Greet visitors and answer telephones promptly and courteously; accompany visitors to appropriate areas as needed. Assist patients with guest services such as television and telephone service, securing valuables, and providing information and referrals. Receive and maintain business office inventory for the care center. Answer the call system and refer to appropriate staff. Other duties as assigned, including reporting on lost/found patient property, reviewing death certificates for completion and accuracy, generating reports, etc. Qualifications High school diploma or GED; associate’s degree preferred. At least 1 year of related work experience. Proven data entry and computer skills required. Experience with medical databases such as Cerner, IDX, or Eagle. Clerical skills (answering phones, relaying messages, reception, correspondence). Proven customer service experience in a healthcare environment. Previous experience with insurance pre‑certifications and discharging patients. Collective bargaining unit: SEIU 1199‑MSH.
