Retail Manager – Lawn & Garden Center

Position: Retail Manager
Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire
Starting Salary: $45,000–$50,000/year
Schedule: Flexible schedule required, including weekends and seasonal peak periods

Position Overview

A locally owned Lawn & Garden Center is seeking an experienced Retail Manager to oversee day-to-day operations, lead a small team, and help drive sales and profitability. This is a hands-on management position in a small facility, with responsibility for up to 15 employees during peak season.

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader who can establish systems, improve productivity and accountability, and confidently direct and delegate work based on the needs of the shop and property.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily retail operations and ensure the facility runs efficiently.
• Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and manage employees.
• Provide leadership, direction, and accountability to the team.
• Develop and implement systems to improve productivity, organization, and profitability.
• Direct and delegate employees based on daily shop and property needs.
• Monitor sales and identify opportunities to increase revenue and customer satisfaction.
• Oversee merchandising, product displays, inventory presentation, and overall store appearance.
• Assist with marketing initiatives and promotional efforts to increase customer traffic and sales.
• Communicate effectively with ownership/leadership regarding operations, staffing, sales, and facility needs.
• Coordinate with team members to ensure needs across the property are addressed.
• Lead by example and be willing to work alongside employees when needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and customer-friendly environment.
• Help manage seasonal staffing and increased operational demands during peak periods.

Qualifications

• Previous management experience is required.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, and hold employees accountable.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective systems and processes.
• Strong communication and delegation skills.
• Sales-focused mindset with the ability to identify opportunities for increased profit.
• Experience with retail, lawn & garden, agricultural, landscaping, or a related environment is preferred.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to stand and walk for the duration of a full shift.
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule based on business and seasonal needs.
