Final Assembler

The Final Assembler prepares units for shipment by completing mechanical assembly, installing components, and ensuring each product meets quality and safety standards. This role involves working with sheet metal, using a variety of hand and power tools, and performing precise measurements to assemble and finish units accurately.

Responsibilities

• Prepare units for final finish to ensure they are fully ready for shipment.
• Attach doors and other components securely to units according to specifications.
• Lift and move materials and components weighing up to 50 pounds safely and efficiently.
• Assemble sheet metal panels by screwing, fastening, and securing them together.
• Install insulation and other internal materials as required by the build specifications.
• Use power tools such as drills, grinders, impacts, saws, and plasma cutting equipment to perform cutting, drilling, grinding, and fastening tasks.
• Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials to guide fabrication and assembly.
• Use a calculator and tape measure to perform accurate measurements and calculations during assembly.
• Fasten seams and joints using bolts, rivets, caulks, and metal drive clips to assemble components into complete products.
• Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to ensure correct assembly and installation.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area to support safety and efficiency.
• Follow safety procedures and proper tool-handling practices while working with hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal.
• Collaborate with team members and communicate any issues or discrepancies identified during assembly.

Essential Skills

• Previous mechanical assembly experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
• Proficiency using power tools, including drills, grinders, impacts, saws, and plasma cutting equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately.
• Previous fabrication shop experience, particularly with sheet metal fabrication or construction-related work.
• Skilled in using hand tools and power tools for assembly and fabrication tasks.
• Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately for precise measurements.
• Experience reading and working with levels and squares to ensure proper alignment and fit.
• Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with installation assembly processes.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with installation assembly and general construction or fabrication work.
• Experience in sheet metal fabrication, including cutting, fitting, and fastening components.
• Comfort using calculators and measurement tools to support accurate layout and assembly.
• Blueprint reading skills applied in a production or fabrication setting.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented production environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a fabrication and assembly shop environment focused on sheet metal products and mechanical assemblies. You work primarily on a first shift schedule from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with additional work available on Fridays and Saturdays as needed. The position involves frequent use of power tools such as drills, grinders, impacts, saws, and plasma cutting equipment, as well as hand tools, tape measures, levels, and squares. The work is physically active, including standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working around metal components and fabrication equipment. The shop environment requires adherence to safety practices, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Bend, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
