Mobile Diesel Technician Level II Overview Cox Fleet, a Cox Automotive company headquartered in Indianapolis, is the leading provider of on‑site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide. Cox Fleet by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II to perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The role includes advanced diagnostics under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. A successful candidate will comply with all company policies and achieve high performance metrics. Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fans, clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches and differentials. Diagnose, adjust and repair various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, air‑conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches and differentials. Inspect, test and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges. Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation. Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives. Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on a company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation. Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑/post‑trip inspections. Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations. Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work related activities and time allocations. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks. Document work according to company standards, upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings observed on Repair Orders ("RO") using a company‑issued iOS device and our proprietary TRAIT application. Accurately complete DOT forms and all other forms of documentation in a timely fashion. Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule. Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most Standard Repair Times. Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs. Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers and discuss RO findings. Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA and DOT. Requirements High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a higher degree or certification beyond a high school diploma/​GED, or 5 years’ experience. Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform job duties. Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months. Must complete DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical. Must be at least 21 years or older. Valid driver’s license required; must hold a valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File. Compensation Hourly pay rate is in the range of $29.42 - $44.13/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on location and candidate qualifications. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program. $3500 New Hire Bonus - 50% after 30 days and 50% after 180 days.
