Job Description

The Maintenance Technician supports reliable plant operations by performing preventive and corrective maintenance on production machinery and facility systems in a food processing environment. This role works on the second shift from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and focuses on troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, supporting refrigeration systems, and maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work area.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safe and efficient operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance on production machines.

• Follow diagrams, operating manuals, and manufacturer instructions to perform maintenance tasks accurately and safely.

• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for irregular sounds, and using measuring and testing instruments.

• Locate sources of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, or refrigeration problems and perform appropriate repairs or adjustments.

• Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock levels, anticipating needs, and placing and expediting orders as required.

• Verify receipt of parts and supplies and ensure they are stored properly for future use.

• Keep all shops, engine rooms, and work areas clean, safe, and organized to support efficient and safe maintenance activities.

• Complete all assigned work orders in a timely manner and document work performed clearly and accurately.

• Support the updating and execution of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs.

• Perform daily rounds to inspect equipment and facility systems, identifying and addressing issues proactively.

• Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs, and communicating effectively with colleagues and supervisors.

• Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and building professional networks.

• Adhere to all safety guidelines and consistently wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Follow the company’s attendance guidelines at the assigned work location.

• Maintain tools and equipment in good working order and store them in their proper locations after use.

• Identify and report any hazards or unsafe conditions to management promptly.

• Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned to support overall plant operations.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or GED.

• Vocational or technical school education in a related mechanical, electrical, or industrial field.

• 1–3 years of experience in maintenance, industrial maintenance, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Hands-on experience in welding for repair and fabrication tasks.

• Experience with electrical systems, including troubleshooting and repair of industrial equipment.

• Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems used in production environments.

• Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems, including basic troubleshooting and maintenance.

• Mechanical aptitude for working with production machinery, mechanical components, and moving equipment.

• Demonstrated ability to perform preventive maintenance and follow structured maintenance schedules.

• Troubleshooting skills for diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration issues using appropriate tools and test instruments.

• Familiarity with Process Safety Management (PSM) concepts related to ammonia refrigeration or similar systems.

• Ability to read and interpret diagrams, operating manuals, and manufacturer instructions.

• Strong commitment to safety practices, including consistent use of PPE and adherence to safety procedures.

• Ability to maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities and communicate effectively with team members.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in the meat processing or food processing industry, particularly in FDA-regulated environments, is desired but not required.

• Knowledge of FDA and food safety considerations as they relate to equipment maintenance in a processing facility.

• Experience with building maintenance tasks in an industrial or processing facility.

• Familiarity with preventive maintenance (PM) programs and computerized or structured work order systems.

• Exposure to refrigeration systems beyond ammonia is beneficial.

• Ability to participate in ongoing training, workshops, and technical education to stay current with industry practices.

• Strong organizational skills for managing parts, tools, and maintenance records.

• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while contributing effectively to a maintenance team.

Work Environment

The pay range for this position is $53726.00 - $53726.00/yr.
