A day in this role

You start with the project engineer’s directives and convert them into clear, service-friendly hydraulic solutions. In AutoCAD, you outline circuits for pumps, motors, valves (including proportional control), and cylinders. In SOLIDWORKS, you build precise 3D layouts to position components for straightforward plumbing, maintenance access, and manufacturability.

What you’ll do

• Create hydraulic schematics and full systems using AutoCAD.
• Develop detailed 3D models in SOLIDWORKS to optimize placement of hydraulic components.
• Research vendor data for purchased parts and capture specifications in the bill of materials.
• Select and justify manifold solutions to reduce plumbing cost and boost performance.
• Size and specify hydraulic lines—tubing, pipe, hose, fittings—accounting for pressure ratings, flow velocities, pressure drops, and seal types.
• Apply practical plumbing methods so designs can be built efficiently and cost-effectively.
• In partnership with the project engineer, deliver designs that meet functional requirements, schedule, and quoted hours.
• Meet with customer representatives to review functionality and incorporate feedback.
• Ensure alignment with industry engineering standards and safety/ergonomic guidelines.
• Work cross-functionally to confirm feasibility and smooth manufacturing.

Tools you’ll use

• AutoCAD for circuit design
• SOLIDWORKS for mechanical solid modeling

What you bring

• 5+ years of mechanical design experience for automation equipment with emphasis on hydraulic systems and fluid power cooling.
• Advanced proficiency with 3D SOLIDWORKS.
• Sharp problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
