Dentist PositionThe Dentist provides comprehensive oral health care services to patients in a Rural Health Clinic (RHC), focusing on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of dental conditions in a medically underserved population. This role emphasizes access to care, patient education, and integration with primary care services, supporting overall health outcomes.RHCs are designed to expand access to essential healthcare in rural and underserved communities, requiring providers to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and compliant care within a team-based environment.Principal Duties And ResponsibilitiesClinical CarePerform comprehensive dental examinations, diagnoses, and treatment planningProvide preventive services including cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealantsPerform restorative procedures such as fillings, crowns, and basic prosthodonticsConduct simple extractions and minor oral surgical proceduresDiagnose and manage oral infections, diseases, and dental emergenciesPrescribe medications appropriately (e.g., antibiotics, analgesics)Preventive & Community Health FocusEducate patients on oral hygiene, nutrition, and disease preventionPromote early detection of oral health issues, including oral cancer screeningsAddress barriers to care common in rural populations (transportation, cost, access)Participate in outreach programs or school-based dental initiatives (if applicable)Care Coordination & CollaborationCollaborate with primary care providers, behavioral health staff, and specialistsIntegrate oral health with overall patient care plansRefer patients to specialists (oral surgery, orthodontics, etc.) when necessaryParticipate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case discussionsCompliance & DocumentationMaintain accurate and timely patient records in EHR/EMR systemsEnsure compliance with federal, state, and RHC regulationsFollow infection control, sterilization, and OSHA standardsAdhere to Medicaid/Medicare billing and documentation requirementsOperations & Quality ImprovementSupport clinic workflow efficiency and patient accessSupervise dental hygienists, assistants, and support staffParticipate in quality improvement initiatives and performance metricsAssist with inventory management and procurement of dental suppliesContribute to maintaining accreditation and readiness for auditsQualificationsEducation & LicensureDoctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from an accredited programActive dental license in West Virginia (or eligibility)DEA registration (or ability to obtain)ExperienceExperience in general dentistry requiredExperience in community health, public health, or rural settings preferredFamiliarity with Medicaid populations and underserved patient care strongly preferredCompetenciesStrong clinical and diagnostic skills across general dentistryExcellent communication and patient education abilitiesCultural competence and sensitivity to underserved populationsAbility to work independently and within a team-based care modelAdaptability in a resource-limited environmentPhysical DemandsAbility to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.Operates a computer and keyboard.TravelNo travel expected for this position.Position Type/Expected Hours Of WorkThis is a full-time position, and core hours and workdays are Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm.
