School Psychologist Northwood Local Schools – Northwood, Ohio Position Type: Full-Time Responsibilities Provides psycho-educational assessments, intervention planning, and consultation services consistent with district mission and legal requirements. Conducts student assessments to identify developmental, learning, behavioral, and mental health problems and develops interventions. Assists with program planning and identifies opportunities to enhance student learning. Contributes to development of dropout prevention, re-entry, and school completion programs. Conducts evaluations for early entrance, gifted, and non-public school programs. Collaborates with staff to identify students struggling academically or socially, investigates concerns such as abuse, attendance, discrimination, domestic violence, emotional issues, pregnancy, parenting, poverty, self-esteem, substance abuse, and initiates contact with parents, staff, and community resources. Coordinates the Multi-Factored Evaluation process and organizes parent/student conferences. Administers and interprets diagnostic tests, recommending appropriate student services. Allocates time for individual, group, and classroom counseling to help students improve personal skills such as accountability, interpersonal communication, responsible behavior, and self-confidence. Participates in a differentiated referral system that allows staff and parents to request consultation or student evaluation. Identifies and resolves problems that impede student learning, implementing evidence-based interventions with tangible benefits within defined time-frames. Conducts or participates in manifestation determination and functional behavior assessments. Prepares 504 accommodation plans and serves as a resource for plan implementation. Facilitates and supports the least restrictive environment for placement of students with disabilities. Helps staff implement Individualized Education Plans. Completes Evaluation Team Reports by required deadlines. Works with staff to monitor intervention efficacy and recommends modifications as needed. Advocates for students, observes student demeanor, and investigates and reports atypical behavior. Helps students make appropriate choices and grow academically, promoting creativity, critical thinking, cultural awareness, democratic values, empathy, ethical conduct, and self-reliance. Ensures accurate and timely completion of all required Medicaid reports. Exemplifies professionalism and fosters goodwill to enhance district public image. Acts in accordance with the Ohio Licensure Code of Professional Conduct. Complies with drug-free workplace rules, board policies, and administrative guidelines. Contributes to an effective working environment and performs all aspects of the job. Encourages community involvement in school-sponsored activities. Works cohesively with team, developing mutually respectful relationships with coworkers. Maintains acceptable attendance record and punctuality. Maintains professional appearance and appropriate work attire. Participates in development of best practices and advancement of academic standards. Respects privacy and keeps confidential privileged information. Maintains open and effective communications; prepares and maintains accurate records and submits required paperwork on time; provides prompt notification of personal delays or absences; consults appropriate administrator on policy interpretation; uses active listening and problem-solving techniques; respects diversity and resolves issues tactfully. Pursues opportunities to enhance personal performance, stays current with professional standards, and updates skills to use task-appropriate technology. Takes precautions to protect student and staff safety, implements effective pupil management procedures, provides appropriate supervision, addresses harassment or aggressive behavior, and complies with administrative directives and federal/state laws regarding discrimination, inappropriate behavior, suspected child abuse or neglect. Manages student behavior using positive behavioral support techniques. Performs other job-related duties as directed, such as implementing workplace initiatives. Qualifications Holds and maintains required state Department of Education credentials. Displays flexibility, reliability, self-discipline, and willingness to take on challenging tasks. Exhibits effective communication, problem-solving, and time management skills. Embodies high ethical standards and integrity; accepts responsibility for personal conduct. Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
