Corrections Nurse - Night Shift Only (Registered Nurse: Jail Division) Hiring pay: $39.21 - $47.82 per hour Pay range: $39.21 - $56.44 per hour Specialty Pay: $7/hour extra for all shifts Licensed Practical Nurse: hiring pay: $26.50 - $32.33 per hour Pay range: $26.50 - $38.17 per hour Specialty Pay: $5/hour extra for all shifts Differentials: Night shift: $5-6/hour (dependent on day); weekends: $2/hr per shift; $100 bonus for covering an open shift. Hours of work may vary and may include nights, weekends, and holidays. All positions are direct employees of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, not contracted. The Corrections Nurse is responsible for 24‑hour health care of inmates, including assessment, implementation of care, coordination with corrections staff, interfacing with the Health Care Authority and facilitation of care with agencies and physicians in the community. Examples of Duties Obtains a health history and assesses for illness or injury on each incarcerated inmate. Communicates with Classifications regarding appropriate housing assignment. Implementation of medical protocols when appropriate. Communicates with Medical Provider regarding health issues, medical treatment and/or medications. Administers the correct medication and dosage to the correct inmate. Obtains prior medical records when indicated. Assesses mental health status of all inmates. Implements mental health policy as appropriate. Communicates with mental health personnel when psychiatric intervention is identified. Implements and monitors appropriate withdrawal protocols. Supervises isolation techniques and monitors inmates with communicable diseases. Responds to medical situations within the jail. Assists medical provider during Doctor Rounds. Coordinates appointments and transfers. Performs all medical treatments as required and obtains laboratory specimens. Documents appropriate information in each health record. Participates in unit staff meetings. Orientation and training of new personnel. Required Qualifications Education and Experience Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in Colorado with experience in medical assessments. Must be able to successfully pass polygraph, drug screen and background investigation. Notwithstanding the provisions of Colorado Constitutional Amendment 20, Medical Marijuana, and Amendment 64 legalizing the limited use of marijuana, the use or non‑duty related possession of marijuana by a Sheriff's Office employee is a violation of federal law and is prohibited while employed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Must be well organized and possess detailed assessment skills. Must have the ability to think and act critically. Must interact well with others. Must remain current in correctional health care standards, as well as changes in community nursing care standards. Must have a demonstrated understanding of the security issues surrounding inmate health care in a detention setting. Prior experience with mental health and substance abuse interventions is preferred. Functional Requirements Vision: Single eye correctable vision acceptable. Hearing: Dual hearing required; no significant loss. Sense of Smell: Intact. Speech: Ability to speak and understand English clearly. Body Movement: Mobility of both arms and legs, ability to walk quickly, climb stairs, reach overhead, bend over, and stand or sit for long periods. Hands and Arms: Dexterity to pick up small items, handle instruments, write patient information, administer injections, draw blood, and use keys. Lifting: Ability to lift and carry cartons of medical and office supplies, assist disabled inmates, and move them in and out of beds, wheelchairs, and showers.
