About This Role
Especially Children is seeking a dedicated, nurturing, and qualified First Steps 4K Teacher to join our early childhood education team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction and create a positive learning environment while ensuring full compliance with South Carolina First Steps 4K program requirements and guidelines. First Steps 4K programs focus on kindergarten readiness, research-based instructional practices, ongoing assessment, and family engagement.
The First Steps 4K Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support the academic, social, emotional, and physical growth of four-year-old children. The teacher will maintain a classroom that meets all First Steps 4K standards and promotes school readiness.
What You'll Do Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Implement a research-based curriculum aligned with First Steps 4K requirements.
- Create a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment.
- Conduct ongoing child assessments and maintain accurate documentation.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that support kindergarten readiness.
- Foster positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
- Encourage family involvement and participate in parent conferences and engagement activities.
- Maintain compliance with all licensing, health, safety, and First Steps 4K regulations.
- Participate in required professional development and training.
- Monitor attendance and support program expectations regarding regular student participation.
- Strong understanding of child development.
- Ability to build positive relationships with children and families.
- Commitment to high-quality early childhood education.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Associate Degree/Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.
- South Carolina teaching certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and early childhood standards.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to meet all First Steps 4K teacher requirements and maintain program compliance.
- Six months experience working in a licensed childcare facility
- Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education
