General nursing skills are essential. A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience is preferred. At least 1 prior travel assignment is required. SANE RN experience is preferred. Experience working in a teaching hospital is preferred. Description: The emergency room provides care for a diverse patient population, including newborns to the elderly with various complaints. Nurses will manage patients ranging from minor cases to critically ill individuals. Common conditions treated include strokes, heart attacks, and trauma. The facility has a dedicated trauma team for critical patients in the trauma bay. Nurses will need to be proficient in managing various drips, including vasopressors, cardiac drips, and antihypertensive medications. Patient-to-nurse ratios can vary based on acuity and department needs. The emergency department is staffed with a minimum of 3 attending physicians at all times. There are two charge nurses on each shift to assist with department needs. Nurse aides and ED techs assist with patient care and have designated ratios. Respiratory therapists are available to support equipment like vents and BiPAP. Nurses in the ED are expected to interpret rhythm strips. Phlebotomy staff assist with lab draws, but nurses and techs also perform this task. Shifts consist of 12 hours and may include every other weekend and holiday requirements. Traveling nurses may be floated to assist on other units when necessary but will not be expected to manage a full patient load in those areas. Scrubs should be tasteful and colorful with solid underlayers.
