Project Cost Accountant

Job Description

Position Summary

\n

The Project Cost Accountant (Junior or Senior) provides accounting support for assigned construction projects, including job costing, billing, budgets, and project reporting. Partners with Project Managers and Operations. Junior levels work under guidance; Senior levels work independently and guide others.

\n

\n

Key Responsibilities (All Levels)

\n

• Review project transactions for correct job and cost coding; research and correct discrepancies

\n

• Review labor, materials, subcontractor, and equipment costs for missing or unusual activity

\n

• Prepare or support project billing; track unbilled amounts, retainage, and contract requirements

\n

• Assist with project setup, budget maintenance, and closeout, verifying documentation before system changes

\n

• Prepare job cost reports and supporting schedules for month-end close on deadline

\n

• Communicate with Project Managers, Operations, Payroll, and AP; escalate unusual or higher-risk matters

\n

\n

Senior Level Also

\n

• Own financial oversight of assigned projects through their lifecycle and resolve root causes independently

\n

• Support work on hand, WIP, cost-to-complete, and forecasting; monitor budget-to-actual variances and join project financial reviews

\n

• Train and guide Junior PCAs and help improve processes

\n

\n

Qualifications

\n

• Junior: associate or bachelor's degree preferred; 0–3 years of accounting, construction, or project administration experience

\n

• Senior: bachelor's degree preferred; 4–7+ years of job-cost or construction accounting experience

\n

• Proficiency with Excel and ERP systems; strong attention to detail
