JOB DESCRIPTION

A & Associates is seeking a dependable Chemical Operator/Batch Maker to support a specialty coatings, adhesives and sealants manufacturing operation serving construction and industrial markets in Tampa, Florida.

This position loads raw materials into tanks and mixers and follows formulations and batch instruction sheets to produce finished goods. The Chemical Operator/Batch Maker weighs, blends and samples materials while following standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality requirements, safety rules and company policies.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Follow the daily production schedule and assignments provided by the supervisor.

·       Handle chemicals safely and load the specified raw materials into mixing equipment according to batch instructions.

·       Weigh, batch and blend ingredients to the specifications established in the formulation and SOP.

·       Monitor multiple processes and maintain schedule efficiency to meet production demand.

·       Take periodic samples for quality control and follow instructions from the supervisor or Quality Control (QC) technician to meet product standards.

·       Maintain close communication with the supervisor and QC technician throughout the batch process.

·       Report or record inventory movements resulting from each batch on the batch sheet.

·       Promptly report problems, unusual conditions, equipment concerns and product discrepancies.

·       Keep the work area and equipment clean, organized and in good condition; support housekeeping throughout the facility.

·       Assist with general labor assignments and, when requested, help train new personnel in the safe operation of mixing equipment.

·       Maintain dependable attendance, arrive on time and perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

·       Follow relevant safety, quality, security and operating policies, company procedures and posted instructions.

·       Understand and follow lockout/tagout procedures and hazard communication policies.

·       Become familiar with the applicable SOPs and operator manuals before operating equipment.

·       Wear required personal protective equipment, including steel-toed boots.

·       After training, demonstrate understanding of safety rules and regulations through a written or verbal assessment.

·       Enter confined spaces only after completing the required task-specific confined-space training and following all applicable safety protocols and authorizations.

·       After completing the required confined-space training, assist with rotating mix-tank cleaning assignments using shovels, air tools or other designated equipment, as directed.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience and Technical Skills

·       Chemical handling and/or light chemical manufacturing experience is preferred.

·       Experience reading and working with SOPs is a plus.

·       Forklift experience is a plus.

·       Basic math skills and the ability to apply them to weighing, batching and production tasks.

·       Ability to read, understand and follow relevant procedures, batch instructions, equipment manuals and posted signage.

·       Strong attention to detail and the ability to monitor multiple processes at the same time.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

The essential functions of this role include the following, with or without reasonable accommodation:

·       Safely lift and handle materials weighing up to 70 pounds.

·       Stand for extended periods and perform tasks involving standing, walking, sitting, reaching, climbing, stooping and kneeling.

·       Perform repetitive, strenuous work in a plant environment with varying temperatures and climate conditions.

·       Meet the task-related visual acuity requirement of 20/20 vision or corrected 20/20 vision.

·       Receive, understand and communicate work and safety instructions, including verbal instructions and posted signage.

·       Perform assigned confined-space work after completing the required training and following applicable safety procedures.

COMPENSATION AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Hourly pay is$16.00- $17.00.

The scheduled shift is 6:00 AM-2:30 PM, and weekend availability is required. This is a temporary-to-hire opportunity with a potential conversion point of 480 hours, subject to successful assignment performance and the client’s hiring decision. Permanent employment is not guaranteed.
