Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg/Tele

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour shifts with schedule options of 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, 11:00 AM to 11:30 PM, or 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Option to work 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday requirements: 2 out of 3 holidays during winter, every other holiday during other times
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Department: Med Tele RN - 8N with 27 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Day/Evening 1:4-5, Nights 1:6 (up to 1:7 when short-staffed)
• Nurse aide support available: 1:7-9 on day/evening shifts, 1:14 overnight
• Charge nurse and house supervisor available on all shifts; travelers may be asked to step into charge role, especially on nights
• Centralized tele techs monitor and read strips; RNs are asked to be tele aware
• Respiratory therapy available in-house 24/7 overseeing multiple units
• Required to titrate drips including insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, and octreotide
• Must be comfortable managing blood transfusions
• Common diagnoses include oncology/hematology, general medical, GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
• No oncology or chemotherapy knowledge required; internal nurses handle treatment needs
• Must have acute care experience and comfort with complex patients
• Prior travel experience preferred
• Must have experience with drips
• Travel pairs will not be accepted
• Float requirement: first to float within med-surg units; floating done in 4-hour increments
• Scrub color: any color accepted; no logo from other health systems permitted
• Orientation consists of 1 day of computer training/CBT/regulatory and one 12-hour shift on the floor
• Charting system: Cerner
• Required certification: BLS (AHA)
• Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local

This acute care facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center offering comprehensive medical services across multiple units. The facility provides a well-supported work environment with centralized telemetry monitoring, in-house respiratory therapy available 24/7, charge nurses and house supervisors on all shifts, and nurse aide support.
