Regional Electrical Engineering Department Manager (Life Sciences)

Location: Conshohocken, PA (Hybrid - 3 days/week in office)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Regional Electrical Engineering Department Manager to lead our Northeast electrical engineering team supporting complex life sciences projects. This leadership role combines technical expertise, people management, client engagement, and strategic workforce planning to ensure successful project execution across the region.

As a passionate leader, you will mentor and develop engineering talent while driving collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence. You'll work closely with clients, project teams, and senior leadership to deliver high-quality electrical engineering solutions for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and life sciences facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

• Lead and manage a Northeast regional electrical engineering department consisting of approximately 20 engineers and designers.
• Coach, mentor, and develop team members while supporting professional growth and career development.
• Monitor team performance, workload, and resource allocation to ensure successful project delivery.
• Lead department meetings to communicate business strategies, coordinate regional activities, and optimize staffing across projects.
• Develop staffing plans and workforce strategies to support current and future project demands.

Project & Client Management

• Interface directly with clients to understand project scope, objectives, and deliverable requirements.
• Participate in early feasibility studies and conceptual design efforts as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
• Prepare project reports, technical recommendations, and cost estimates.
• Develop engineering staffing estimates and project proposals based on project scope and deliverables.
• Support projects through design development and provide construction-phase engineering assistance.

Technical Leadership

• Provide technical oversight for the design of building electrical systems for life sciences facilities.
• Lead multidisciplinary collaboration on complex engineering projects.
• Support the design and review of:
  • Medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems
  • UPS and emergency generator systems
  • Lighting systems
  • Grounding systems
  • Heat tracing systems
• Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, including NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and local building codes.

Strategic Collaboration

• Partner with the Electrical Engineering Department Director, Life Sciences North America, to align regional strategies, staffing, and project execution.
• Manage regional staffing needs and coordinate resource sharing across the organization.
• Identify and escalate technical challenges, staffing gaps, and workforce planning needs.
• Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders and client technical representatives.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 15 years of electrical engineering and design experience.
• Extensive experience designing building electrical systems.
• Strong knowledge and practical application of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) and applicable local building codes.
• Experience designing:
  • Medium- and low-voltage power systems
  • Large UPS and generator systems
  • Lighting systems
  • Grounding systems
  • Heat tracing systems
• Experience managing teams of engineering and design professionals, including performance management and professional development.
• Experience working on multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Experience collaborating directly with client technical representatives on life sciences facility projects.
• Experience preparing staffing estimates and resource plans based on project scope.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience designing electrical systems for life sciences campus facilities.
• Working knowledge of Revit.
• Extensive experience collaborating with Life Sciences clients and electrical engineering teams.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
