About the Role:

The Produce Clerk - Wet Rack plays a critical role in maintaining the freshness, quality, and presentation of fresh produce within the wet rack area of a retail or grocery environment. This position ensures that all fruits and vegetables are properly stocked, rotated, and displayed to meet company standards and customer expectations. The clerk is responsible for monitoring inventory levels, removing spoiled or damaged items, and assisting customers with product inquiries to enhance their shopping experience. Attention to detail and adherence to food safety regulations are paramount to prevent waste and ensure compliance with health standards. Ultimately, this role supports the overall success of the produce department by contributing to a clean, organized, and appealing produce section that drives sales and customer satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience working in a produce department or similar retail environment preferred.
• Basic knowledge of fresh produce handling and food safety standards.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with inventory management systems or point-of-sale technology.
• Familiarity with local and federal food safety regulations.
• Customer service experience in a retail setting.
• Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
• Certification in food safety or handling (e.g., ServSafe) is a plus.

Responsibilities:

• Receive, inspect, and properly store incoming produce shipments to ensure freshness and quality.
• Stock and rotate produce items on the wet rack according to company guidelines and food safety standards.
• Regularly monitor produce for signs of spoilage or damage and promptly remove affected items.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the wet rack area, including proper temperature control and sanitation.
• Assist customers by answering questions about produce items, providing recommendations, and ensuring a positive shopping experience.
• Collaborate with team members and management to manage inventory levels and reduce waste.
• Follow all safety and health regulations to maintain a safe working environment.

The Produce Clerk uses their knowledge of produce handling and food safety daily to ensure all items are fresh and safe for customers. Organizational skills are essential for stocking and rotating products efficiently to minimize waste and maintain an attractive display. Customer service skills are applied when assisting shoppers with product information and recommendations, enhancing their overall experience. Physical stamina and attention to detail are critical for performing tasks such as lifting heavy boxes, cleaning, and monitoring product quality.
