Job Description
This role operates large stamping presses to produce automotive components while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity. You will set up and run 2–500 ton presses, perform basic preventative maintenance, and use precision measuring tools to verify part quality. The position requires close attention to detail, consistent adherence to safety and standard operating procedures, and the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate 2–500 ton stamping presses to produce automotive parts such as transmission components and other metal parts.
- Assist with press setup, including die changes, coil changes, and production changeovers to ensure efficient operation.
- Measure coils, read scales, and verify correct material and setup parameters before and during production.
- Use an overhead crane to safely move materials and tooling; participate in future forklift training as required.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance on presses and related equipment to maintain safe and reliable operation.
- Use micrometers, calipers, and gauges to check part quality approximately every 500 parts or as required by procedures.
- Ensure parts meet quality specifications by performing regular inspections with various measurement tools and documenting results when needed.
- Monitor press operation throughout the shift, promptly identify issues, and communicate or correct problems to minimize downtime and scrap.
- Follow and understand safety procedures and standard operating procedures for press operation and material handling.
- Maintain a safe work area by keeping equipment, tools, and surrounding space clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Wear and properly use all required personal protective equipment (PPE) for the full duration of the shift.
- Support production targets by working overtime, additional days, and weekends when required, especially during peak periods.
- Collaborate with team members, maintenance, and leadership to support continuous improvement and safe production practices.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of previous press operation experience with 2–500 ton presses in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience in transfer or progressive die press operations.
- Experience operating stamping presses and production press equipment.
- Ability to perform die changes, coil changes, and basic press setup activities.
- Ability to use micrometers, calipers, and gauges to measure parts and verify quality.
- Comfort working in a manufacturing environment with large machinery and production lines.
- Ability to read and follow safety procedures and standard operating procedures.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime, including extra days and weekends, as required.
- Ability to wear all required PPE, including steel or composite toe shoes, hard hat, ear protection, and eye protection for the entire shift.
- Capability to perform general labor and machine operation tasks in a fast-paced production setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience running a 500 ton stamping press.
- Progressive or transfer die experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
- Prior exposure to metal stamping, production press, and metal press operations.
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance tasks such as basic oil changes and routine checks on press equipment.
- Experience in large-scale manufacturing facilities, particularly automotive component production.
- Comfort working around older machinery and in a loud, typical industrial environment.

Work Environment
This position is based in a large automotive manufacturing facility with more than 400 employees. There is one current opening on second shift. Standard shift hours are approximately 6:50 a.m.–3:10 p.m. for first shift, 2:50 p.m.–11:10 p.m. for second shift, and 10:50 p.m.–7:10 a.m. for third shift. Candidates may be required to work overtime, additional days, and weekends, with particularly busy periods around August. Training typically occurs on day shift for about one week, or through a hybrid schedule of first and second shift. The facility uses large stamping presses, overhead cranes, and other typical manufacturing equipment to produce automotive components such as fuel hoses, air conditioning hoses, turbo air hoses, water and vacuum hoses, mounts, transmission parts, suspension parts, and chassis parts. The environment is loud, has a noticeable rubber smell, and includes older but well-lit machinery. Steel or composite toe shoes are required, and the dress code consists of long pants and a t-shirt, with uniforms provided over time. All required PPE, including hard hats, ear protection, and eye protection, is supplied on site.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.02 - $24.02/hr.
