Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years PCU RN experience License: Required Certifications: Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Ability to pass an EKG competency exam Description: The position involves caring for patients in a stepdown unit. The unit typically accommodates 24-25 beds. Patients may be post-surgical or require close monitoring. Common conditions include respiratory failure, CVA, DKA, and sepsis. There is a requirement for titrating cardiac and insulin drips. Familiarity with managing drains, tubes, and wound care is essential. Cardiac skills may include managing venous sheaths and temporary pacemakers. Patient ratios are 1:3-4. Support on the unit includes CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, and respiratory therapists. The charting system used is Meditech Expanse. Weekend rotation is mandatory, with every other weekend scheduled. Two out of three major holidays are to be worked.
