Senior Foreign Policy Advisor

Rep. Brad Schneider (IL-10) seeks an experienced, hard-working, strategically minded Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to join his Washington, D.C. office. This position is responsible for advising the Congressman on relevant areas of interest, helping craft and implement positions and policies, and communicating the same with relevant stakeholders. The Congressman serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Ways and Means Committee, and his foreign policy interests span the full committee’s remit, with particular emphasis on the Eastern Mediterranean, Iran, Lebanon and Syria, Arab-Israel normalization, sanctions, and energy and infrastructure. He is a co‑founder and co‑chair of the House Abraham Accords Caucus, co‑chair of the Congressional Hellenic Israel Alliance (CHIA), co‑chair of the House Bulgarian Caucus, co‑founder and co‑chair of the Congressional Jewish Caucus, and an active member of the House Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism. He is a House‑appointed Trustee for the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council. Ideal Candidates We are seeking an individual with previous policy experience handling foreign affairs, particularly the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean, as well as some background addressing antisemitism and hate in all its forms in the U.S. and abroad. Successful applicants will build upon the Congressman’s existing leadership and effectively drive policy on Capitol Hill for these issue areas. Ideal candidates should have at least 4 years of legislative experience on Capitol Hill or comparable advocacy experience working on the above policy issues. This position reports to the Legislative Director and will have extensive interaction with the Congressman, as well as working closely with the legislative, communications, and district teams. Responsibilities The House Foreign Affairs Committee, including Oversight subcommittee, as well as Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean policy, Iran, Lebanon and Syria, sanctions, and energy and infrastructure Developing and nurturing relationships with outside stakeholders, including relevant embassies, think tanks, and interested constituents The House Abraham Accords Caucus, CHIA caucus, and Arab‑Israel normalization portfolio The Congressional Jewish Caucus and the House Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, and signature legislation including the Mediterranean Gateway Act Duties Preparing and staffing Member for meetings, committee hearings and markups, floor process, and related events Recommending and organizing briefings and policy‑related forums with and for other Members and staff Representing Member in meetings and correspondence with constituents Representing the member with national and local level advocacy groups, think tanks, and other groups relevant to policy portfolio including foreign dignitaries, diplomats, and staff from the Executive Branch Building and maintaining positive personal relationships with congressional staff, district and national stakeholders, advocacy organizations, Executive Branch officials, foreign diplomats, and other key stakeholders relevant to policy portfolio Tracking legislation and other developments in assigned issue area(s), monitor relevant committee and floor activity, track developing local/international news events, make recommendations for votes, cosponsorships and letters for the Member to sign Building support for Member’s policy priorities and developing and implementing ideas for new initiatives (legislation, letters, events, press, etc.) including a strong emphasis on bipartisanship Drafting legislation, letters, floor/committee remarks, talking points, press related materials, and other written material related to policy portfolio Exercising discretion and independent judgment in the formulation and recommendation of policy positions for the Member Other duties as assigned by the Legislative Director and Chief of Staff The office is an equal opportunity employer; we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, gender identity or expression, or sexual orientation.
