TVIs provide specialized instruction and support that enables students with visual impairments to access curriculum, develop independence, and successfully participate in the school environment. As a key member of the special education team, you'll collaborate with students, families, teachers, related service providers, and administrators to ensure students receive the tools and accommodations they need to succeed academically and functionallyCurrent openings:Phoenix, AZScottsdale, AZBryan, TXCleveland, TXForney, TXSan Antonio, TXResponsibilities may include:Providing direct instruction to students with visual impairmentsConducting vision-related educational assessmentsSupporting access to educational materials and classroom accommodationsTeaching compensatory and functional skills that promote independenceAssisting with Braille instruction when appropriateCollaborating with classroom teachers and special education teamsParticipating in ARD/IEP meetings and goal developmentConsulting with families regarding student progress and support strategiesRecommending assistive technology and adaptive equipmentMonitoring student progress and maintaining required documentationCore requirements:Bachelor's degree or higher in Education, Special Education, or a related fieldTeacher of the Visually Impaired certification or endorsement recognized by the state of employmentValid teaching certificate/license required by the applicable stateAbility to meet district fingerprinting and background clearance requirementsExperience working with students with visual impairments preferredState credential requirements:Arizona (AZ): Valid Arizona teaching certificate, Teacher of the Visually Impaired endorsement or approved certification, Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card requiredTexas (TX): Valid Texas educator certification, Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVI) certification required through the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Completion of district-required background checksPreferred qualifications:Experience providing services in K-12 educational settingsKnowledge of Braille instruction and tactile learning materialsFamiliarity with assistive technology for students with visual impairmentsStrong collaboration and communication skillsExperience participating in IEP development and implementationWhy become a Teacher of the Visually Impaired?
