Senior Multi-State Payroll Leader

Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Payroll Supervisor to support and oversee complex, multi-state payroll operations within a fast-paced environment. This role is responsible for payroll processing, payroll tax compliance, reporting, garnishments, workers’ compensation reporting, HR/payroll data management, and supporting payroll-related projects and process improvements. The ideal candidate will have experience managing large-volume payroll operations across multiple FEINs and locations while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and labor regulations. Experience supporting construction, field services, or project-based labor environments is strongly preferred. Key Responsibilities Manage payroll processing across multiple FEINs, states, and locations Ensure accurate payroll reporting, tax compliance, and general ledger reporting Support month-end payroll and labor cost reporting Process payroll corrections and job cost adjustments as needed Manage garnishments, workers’ compensation reporting, and regulatory filings Train and support field personnel on payroll/timekeeping processes and procedures Resolve employee payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner Review payroll data for accuracy and compliance with company policies and labor regulations Assist with payroll audits and reporting requests Identify process improvement opportunities and implement audit controls Maintain compliance with FLSA, DOL, and applicable payroll regulations Support payroll system administration and related software platforms Collaborate cross-functionally with accounting, HR, and field operations teams Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred 8+ years of payroll experience in high-volume, multi-state environments Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations, labor laws, and compliance requirements Experience with payroll/timekeeping systems and reporting platforms Advanced Excel and strong overall computer skills Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Experience supporting construction, field operations, or project-based labor environments strongly preferred Professional demeanor with strong internal customer service skills Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
