Mechanical Engineer

Provide mechanical engineering support for the design, operation, maintenance, improvement, reliability, and expansion of American Pacific Corporation's chemical manufacturing facilities and equipment. Provide technical support to Maintenance and Operations for mechanical equipment troubleshooting, failure investigations, repair and replacement decisions, and reliability improvements. Manage mechanical engineering and capital projects ranging from equipment modifications and replacements to large-scale plant projects, expansions, and new facilities. Initially support the development and implementation of the Company's Mechanical Integrity Program, with the expectation of eventually assuming ownership and overall responsibility for the program.

Responsibilities include:

1. Providing mechanical engineering support for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, maintenance, improvement, and expansion of the plant.
2. Designing, evaluating, troubleshooting, and improving mechanical equipment and systems, including tanks, pumps, blowers, chiller systems, agitators, heat exchangers, cooling towers, and other fixed and rotating equipment. Developing recommendations for repair, replacement, modification, and reliability improvements.
3. Applying sound engineering principles and applicable codes and standards, including ASME, API, and other relevant requirements, to equipment evaluations, designs, modifications, and projects.
4. Managing assigned capital, maintenance, reliability, expansion, and improvement projects, ranging from equipment modifications and replacements to large-scale plant projects. Developing scopes, budgets, schedules, specifications, and project documentation and coordinating projects through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup.
5. Coordinating outside engineering firms, contractors, vendors, consultants, and other resources and working with Production, Maintenance, EHS, and other plant departments to successfully execute projects.
6. Participating in equipment selection and procurement, including development of specifications, purchase requisitions, technical bid evaluations, vendor evaluations, and review of vendor drawings and submittals.
7. Developing, implementing, and continually improving the Company's Mechanical Integrity Program, with the expectation of eventually assuming overall ownership and responsibility for the Establish and maintain the systems and documentation necessary to identify equipment, plan and track inspections, maintain inspection records, evaluate equipment condition, track deficiencies, and document required follow-up actions.
8. Providing engineering support for structural conditions associated with mechanical equipment and plant facilities, including foundations, platforms, equipment supports, and buildings, and coordinating specialized structural engineering services when required.
9. Leading or participating in design reviews, process safety analyses, project reviews, equipment inspections, and other engineering activities necessary to safely implement projects and equipment modifications.
10. Developing and implementing procedures, work instructions, and other documentation associated with new, modified, or repaired equipment and systems.
11. Providing engineering support during equipment outages, installations, commissioning, startups, and troubleshooting activities.
12. Promoting safe, reliable, maintainable, and environmentally responsible engineering solutions and complying with Company safety, environmental, quality, and operating requirements.
13. Ensuring all projects designs are completed on time, within budget, safely, and satisfactory to operations. Inspecting completed installations and observing operations, to ensure conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
14. Preparing equipment specifications for purchase of materials and equipment.

Education and experience minimums include:

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering principles and application of those principals in the Chemical/Manufacturing environment typically acquired through 1 to 3 (or more) years of experience.

Education and experience preferred include:

• Direct mechanical engineering experience in a chemical plant
• Experience developing, implementing, or managing a Mechanical Integrity Program.
• Education, training, or experience in structural engineering.

Skills/abilities include:

• Experience with project engineering and coordination of contractors, vendors, and other engineering resources.
• Good working knowledge of ASME/API and other engineering codes and standards.
• Familiarity with NDE methods and Mechanical Integrity Programs
• Ability to work productively in a cross functional team environment
• Strong analytical skills
• Ability to effectively solve problems and resolve conflicts
• Organizational skills and is able to prioritize work, develop appropriate time lines and work to deadlines
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task.
