Phlebotomist-Part-time Days MA

Salary: $19.81 - $25.75 per hour (placement based on experience and equity). This is a part‑time, 20‑hour per week phlebotomy position located at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Shift start times vary between 4:00 am and 10:30 am, with end times between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm. Example shifts: 4‑12:30, 5‑1:30, 8‑4:30, 9‑5:30, 10:30‑7:00. The schedule may alternate between inpatient and outpatient and includes every other Saturday and Sunday. Responsibilities Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection according to standards and protocols. Use the AIDET communication model and demonstrate patient safety practices. Receive and review physician orders, ensuring completeness before entering lab orders. Communicate post‑phlebotomy patient care and provide patient education. Label, centrifuge, aliquot, freeze, and package specimens for transport. Record refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA data; report concerns through the Corrective Action Log. Maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment; follow up on orders and communicate results. Notify Laboratory and/or Physician of specimen procurement issues. Adhere to biohazard waste procedures and maintain a safe work environment. Perform lab‑related clerical duties: order entry, test result verification, patient information retrieval, inventory management, and equipment sanitization. Use departmental resources efficiently and participate in cost‑saving initiatives. Complete continuing education and competency assessments. Collaborate with team members, apply critical thinking, and resolve challenging situations. Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization, phlebotomy school, or medical institution, or at least one year of healthcare phlebotomy experience, or CMA certification. Preferred Experience performing phlebotomy on a broad range of patient types. Experience processing, transferring, and handling lab specimens, including use of a centrifuge. Familiarity with medical EMR systems. Knowledge of medical terminology.
