Travel Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)

Location: Antioch, California
Facility: Sutter Health Delta Medical Center
Contract Length: 13 Weeks (Potential for extension)
Schedule: 3x12-Hour Night Shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours: 36 Hours per Week
Unit: Emergency Department (ED)

Position Overview

Sutter Health Delta Medical Center is seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) for a 13-week travel assignment. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-performing Emergency Department serving patients across all age groups, from neonates through geriatrics.

The ideal candidate will have strong emergency nursing experience, excellent critical-thinking skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. Candidates must be comfortable managing a diverse patient population, emergency interventions, trauma cases, and complex medical emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, prioritize, and provide comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients of all ages.
• Perform triage assessments and initiate appropriate interventions.
• Monitor, evaluate, and document patient conditions accurately and timely.
• Administer medications, blood products, and emergency treatments according to physician orders and established protocols.
• Care for patients requiring advanced respiratory support, including BiPAP, CPAP, ventilator management, and intubation assistance.
• Manage emergency situations including stroke, STEMI, trauma, psychiatric crises, overdose, respiratory distress, and cardiac events.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, radiology staff, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
• Maintain compliance with all safety, infection control, and regulatory standards.

Required Qualifications

• Active California Registered Nurse (RN) License.
• Minimum two (2) years of recent Emergency Department experience.
• Recent experience in a Community Hospital setting.
• Trauma Level II experience required.
• Strong experience caring for adult and pediatric emergency patients.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume Emergency Department.

Required Certifications

All certifications must be current and issued by the American Heart Association (AHA):

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

Unit Information

• 33-bed Emergency Department
• Average Daily Census: 16 patients
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
• Patient Population: Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics
• Strong interdisciplinary support including Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Radiology, Social Services, Interpretation Services, and Phlebotomy

Important Assignment Details

• 13-week travel assignment
• Every other weekend requirement
• One pre-approved time-off request permitted
• Additional specialty-specific modules completed during orientation
• Must be available for pre-employment lab work within 3–5 days of contract signing
