In-House Counsel

We are partnering with a growing specialty consumer finance company seeking a Corporate Counsel to support its day-to-day legal, compliance, and contract needs. This is a hands‑on, execution‑oriented in‑house role with direct exposure to executive leadership and broad responsibility across commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, litigation management, and other business matters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS:

Contract Review & Negotiation Draft, review, and negotiate dealer, business partner, vendor, and customer agreements Independently manage routine contract negotiations and support leadership on more complex matters Standardize contract templates and improve contract and onboarding processes Maintain organized contract‑management processes and ensure matters are completed Compliance Oversight Lead and support the compliance program, including supervision of the Compliance Manager Provide guidance regarding applicable consumer finance laws and regulatory requirements Assist with audits, regulatory examinations, and inquiries Maintain policies, procedures, disclosures, and related documentation Translate legal and regulatory requirements into practical business processes Consumer Litigation & Legal Matters Manage consumer complaints, disputes, claims, and outside counsel Advise leadership regarding legal exposure, resolution options, and strategy Support consumer bankruptcy, collections, creditor claims, and small claims matters Strengthen documentation and operational practices to improve legal defensibility Internal Legal Support Serve as a practical, business‑oriented legal advisor to leadership and operational teams Identify legal and operational risks and recommend appropriate solutions Support special projects and other corporate matters as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

J.D. from an accredited law school Licensed to practice law in South Carolina 3-8 years of relevant legal experience Strong contract drafting, review, and negotiation experience Experience independently managing legal matters and advising business stakeholders Experience working with or managing outside counsel Consumer finance, creditor rights, financial services, or other regulated‑industry experience preferred Practical, business‑minded, and comfortable operating without a large legal‑team infrastructure Strong judgment, attention to detail, organization, and follow‑through #J-18808-Ljbffr Forge Search
