Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to patients in a fast-paced medical-surgical and telemetry environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care and managing complex cases.

Shift Details

• Shift Type: Nights
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Scheduled Hours: 36 hours per week
• Shift Timing: 1900 to 0730
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements: 2/3 during winter, every other holiday at other times

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Telemetry
• Number of Beds: 27
• Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 during Day/Eve, 1:6 during Nights
• Common Diagnoses: Oncology/Hematology, General Medical, GI Bleed, PE/DVT, Sepsis, CHF, COPD, Pneumonia, Failure to Thrive (FTT), Weakness

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to patients, including administering medications and managing IV drips.
• Assess patient conditions and record vital signs while maintaining accurate patient records.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to create and implement patient care plans.
• Titrate drips, including but not limited to Insulin, Heparin, Cardizem, Nitro, Amiodarone, and Octreotide.
• Manage blood transfusions and ensure patient safety during procedures.
• Participate in unit orientation and training for new staff as required.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in the state of practice.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, American Heart Association (AHA).
• Minimum of 1 year of acute care experience.
• Comfort and experience in handling complex patients; oncology and chemotherapy experience is not required.
• Preferred experience with travel nursing.

Additional Information

• Charge Nurse and House Supervisor available on all shifts; Charge Nurse takes a modified patient assignment.
• Nursing Aides available with ratios of 1:7-9 on day/evening and 1:14 overnight.
• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 for multi-unit oversight.
• Centralized Telemetry Technicians monitor and read strips, but nurses are expected to be telemetry aware.
• Orientation includes one day of computer-based training and one 12-hour shift on the floor.
