Compensation: Hourly range $24-$32; Commensurate to skills and experience.

Hours: Full-time: Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm. Travel to project sites is expected; an average of 3 days per month.

Company Overview

Maas Energy Works is the leading developer and operator of agricultural waste-to-energy systems in the United States. The Company designs, develops, constructs, and operates biogas powered renewable energy generation systems on dairy farms. Our projects include anaerobic digesters, biogas-powered electric generation, and renewable natural gas upgrading.

Position Description

Maas Energy Works (MEW) is seeking a Project Coordinator to support the day-to-day execution of a Senior Project Manager's portfolio of dairy digester and renewable natural gas projects located in various states. This is an entry-level position and the starting point of the project management career path at MEW. The Project Coordinator (PC) starts by supporting the Senior Project Manager on schedule, budget, scope, and stakeholder communication from Feasibility Analysis through Final Design, RFP/Bidding, Contracting, Construction, Commissioning, and Handoff to Operations and Environmental Compliance. As the PC demonstrates capability, they take on progressively greater ownership of tasks, then of stage gates, and ultimately of whole projects — with the goal of becoming the full Project Manager of 3–4 projects.

Project Coordinators are building depth of understanding, management, and ownership across every part of a project: engineering and design, proformas and financial modeling, project schedules, legal agreements and contracts, scopes of work, budgets, and the Company’s PM software and tools (Wrike, Quickbase, etc.). They work under the close direction, guidance, and review of a Senior Project Manager, take full ownership of the tasks assigned to them from the outset, and learn by doing, asking for support early rather than working around gaps in understanding. Progression is measured by increasing independence, accountability, and leadership across the responsibilities below: a PC typically begins in a support role on a Senior Project Manager's portfolio, is assigned their first project to own within the first year, and grows into full ownership of 3–4 projects before advancing to Project Manager 1.

We are looking for an applicant who is reliable, responsive, and organized, who communicates clearly in writing and in person, and who can learn extensive industry-specific jargon and grasp a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to develop a dairy digester. There is no manual for this job; we are writing it every day.

Responsibilities

Project Support & Execution

Support the day-to-day execution of the Senior Project Manager's project portfolio; know where each project stands on schedule, budget, scope, and open issues at all times.

• Take full ownership of individual projects as they are assigned, building from a support role to serving as project owner for 3–4 projects.
• Build and maintain project schedules in Wrike, with Senior Project Manager review, using the Company Work Breakdown Structure; keep milestones, dependencies, and task owners current.
• Maintain project budgets in Quickbase; track commitments and actuals against budget, update forecasts, and flag variances early to the Senior Project Manager with a proposed path forward.
• Prepare stage gate deliverables for Senior Project Manager review and help drive projects through each gate on schedule.
• Identify project risks early, escalate promptly to the Senior Project Manager, and follow through on agreed mitigations.

Design & Financial Modeling

• Assist the Senior Project Manager in coordinating with Engineering on preliminary (30%) design concepts, final civil and project design, drawing reviews, and design revisions.
• Learn to build and maintain project proformas and financial models in HAL; understand how design, schedule, and cost decisions affect project economics.

Contracts & Agreements

• Support drafting, negotiation, and execution of project agreements with Legal, including manure supply agreements, development O&M agreements, easements and leases, and owner-builder contracts.
• Track contract deliverables, milestones, and obligations for assigned projects and support the Senior Project Manager in holding counterparties to them.

Permitting & Procurement

• Coordinate with Permitting to identify required permits and approvals, track applications, and keep permit conditions integrated into the project schedule.
• Support procurement of manure handling and biogas equipment: scope definition, quotes, purchase orders, and delivery tracking against the construction schedule.

Bidding, Construction & Commissioning

• Assist in preparing RFPs and bid packages, coordinating bidding, leveling bids, and supporting contractor selection with Construction Management.
• Support Construction Management during construction: contractor communication, change order review, schedule monitoring, and resolution of field issues.
• Support commissioning and a documented handoff to Operations and Environmental Compliance at project completion.

Communication & Reporting

• Deliver clear, timely project updates to project owners, stakeholders, contractors, and the Development Team (Permitting, Construction Management, and Engineering).
• Maintain accurate project records and reporting in Wrike and Quickbase; contribute to portfolio reporting to Company leadership.
• Communicate effectively via email, text, phone, and in person; embody the Team Values with reliability, responsiveness, and a project owner mentality.

Growth & Development

• Work through a structured ramp-up plan with the Senior Project Manager: shadow, then support, then own — first by workstream (schedule, budget, contracts, permitting, construction) and then by project.
• Meet regularly with the Senior Project Manager for task review, feedback, and coaching; ask questions early rather than working around gaps in understanding.
• Build working knowledge of industry jargon, the dairy digester development process, and the Company's PM tools (Wrike, Quickbase, proformas) to the level required to run a project independently.
• Progress toward full project ownership of 3–4 projects, measured by increasing independence, accountability, and leadership across the responsibilities above.

Qualifications & Skills

• Zero to two years of professional experience; this is an entry-level role and recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Internship, engineering, construction, agriculture, or project coordination experience is a plus.
• Interest in growing into full project ownership and a long-term project management career, with the drive to take on more responsibility as skills develop.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Agriculture, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• Ability to read and understand construction plans; ability to read P&IDs is a plus.
• Foundational understanding of project budgets, schedules, and contracts, with the aptitude to develop it quickly on the job; financial modeling exposure is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication; comfortable coordinating contractors, engineers, and dairy owners across multiple sites.
• Detail oriented, organized, and a quick learner who takes ownership and asks for help early.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel in particular); experience with Wrike, Quickbase, or similar PM tools is a plus.
• Experience with anaerobic digesters, biogas, RNG, or dairy operations is a plus.
• Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
• Must possess a valid US driver’s license and be able to pass a background check and a motor vehicle (DMV) background check to qualify for use of a company vehicle.

Work Environment

This job mainly operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. Periodic site visits involve outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, etc., and working around moving mechanical or construction equipment.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role with some travel required. Must be able to enter, travel in, and exit vehicles and airplanes, and walk active construction sites on uneven terrain during site visits.
