Job Description
The Operating Room Technician plays a crucial role in assisting the surgical team, ensuring smooth and efficient operations. Under the guidance of the Registered Nurse, the Technician delivers direct patient care, from setting up sterile environments to passing instruments and maintaining accurate counts. This position is integral to our patient-centric approach, working collaboratively with the care team to meet customer needs and support departmental goals.
Responsibilities
- Assist the surgical team during operating procedures as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- Provide direct patient care as a scrub/instrument person, including arranging sterile setups and passing sponges, instruments, and sutures.
- Maintain a clean and organized operating room environment.
- Ensure accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
- Assist with patient positioning and movement as instructed by the surgical RN.
- Deliver prompt and professional care, maintaining confidentiality and respect.
- Work collaboratively as part of the care team to meet customer needs.
- Support departmental objectives and participate in performance improvement initiatives.
- Assume responsibility for professional growth and development.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent; ability to read, speak, and write English.
- Successful completion of an accredited surgical technologist program and certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or equivalent.
- Experience in a similar role is preferred but not mandatory.
- Proficiency in Clinical Applications is desirable, with training provided for incumbents.
- BLSHCP certification is required upon hire or transfer.
- Demonstrated competencies as outlined in the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
- Ability to stand, reach, and walk for extended periods, with the capacity to lift up to 60 lbs.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, finger dexterity, and visual and hearing acuity.
- Potential exposure to hospital hazards, including infectious diseases and hazardous waste.
- Maintains a valid certification as a Surgical Technologist.
