Job Title Construction Inspector I, II, III (2600942) Position Overview TxDOT’s Dallas County Area Office is looking for a Construction Inspector to help oversee the numerous construction projects currently underway in Dallas County. Construction Inspectors perform detailed inspection and management of highway construction projects of widely varying size and scope, from major interstate reconstruction, highway rehabilitations, bridge replacements, pedestrian upgrades, and more. This position requires work both outdoors and in an office environment. Salary and Position Position Title: Construction Inspector I, II, III Salary Grade/Range: Construction Inspector I (B18) : $45,521 - $71,055 annually Construction Inspector II (B19) : $48,244 - $76,028 annually Construction Inspector III (B20) : $51,158 - $81,351 annually Minimum Salary: 45,521.00 Maximum Salary: 81,351.00 Pay Basis: Yearly FLSA Status: Nonexempt Work Location Dallas District Headquarters, 4777 EAST HIGHWAY 80, Mesquite, 75150 Travel and Shift Travel required: Yes, 25% of the time. Job Responsibilities Inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Act as a consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution. May serve as the only inspector on a construction project or assist in overseeing construction inspection activities for very large and/or complex projects within a district or conduct statewide construction inspection activities for ongoing airport improvement projects. Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for approval of all work. Perform materials tests and manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites. Analyses procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management. Calculates payments due contractors for work completed. Monitors project phasing and traffic control plans or airport closure plans and ensures compliance with approved safety standards; inspects barricades; as required moves traffic control devices and barricades. Observes and inspects ongoing construction work. Prepares monthly and final estimates. Documents work progress and issues arising throughout the scope of the project. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Serves as a lead worker or project leader. (Applicable to Construction Inspector II and III) Resolves differences in interpretation of plans and specifications. (Applicable to Construction Inspector II and III) Prepares and reviews correspondence. (Applicable to Construction Inspector III) Minimum Qualifications Education: High School Graduate or equivalent. Experience: Construction Inspector I: No experience required. Construction Inspector II: 1 year of construction, construction inspection, engineering support, maintenance and repairs, materials or process inspection, or transportation engineering support related experience. Construction Inspector III: 2 years of construction, construction inspection, engineering support, maintenance and repairs, materials or process inspection, or transportation engineering support related experience. Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. Position requires driving a state vehicle. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Construction engineering policies and procedures. Applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques. Basic traffic management and control procedures. Knowledge of The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Persuasion and negotiation of critical issues. Applying engineering principles, practices and methods in job responsibilities. Reading and interpreting applicable plans, schematics, blueprints and maps. Performing calculations using algebra, trigonometry and geometry. Interpreting applicable information. Maintaining a safe working environment. Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external. Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Subject to noise. Subject to vibration. Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
