As soon as we determine that we have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.Position overview:The Parks Technician performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the operation and maintenance of municipal park assets including parks, grounds, open space, right of ways, athletic fields, and commercial facilities including all associated facility structures and buildings.PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms skilled manual and technical work involved in the maintenance and operation of public grounds and facilities. Assists with work planning by scheduling, organizing, and securing materials/equipment needed for the accomplishment of assigned Parks Operation tasks.Demonstrates basic leadership skills by making proper field decisions and taking responsibility to ensure positive resultsEfficient in pesticide and fertilizer application while maintaining proper safety practicesConducts routine inspections and preventative maintenance on a variety of mechanical equipment, vehicles, and parks assetsDetermines and obtains appropriate equipment and materials for specific tasksCoordinates, trains, and monitors park employees while ensuring proper safety practicesPerforms mowing, trimming, and turf maintenance tasks as neededOperates and adjusts a variety of power and hand tools and equipmentConducts preventative maintenance and assists in construction of grounds, facilities, and athletic fieldsAssists in performing weed control using mechanical methods and/or by applying herbicidesPerforms snow removal and sanding according to city standards and schedules; manages and maintains record-keeping systemAssists in irrigation installation, inspection, renovation, repair, and maintenanceAddresses complaints and concerns from citizens while in the fieldPerforms other related duties as assignedThis job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
