The facility provides care for a wide variety of patients, from newborns to the elderly. Nurses may encounter critical patients, including those in cardiac arrest, strokes, and heart attacks. Level 1 and 2 trauma patients are cared for by specialized teams. Once stabilized, travelers may care for trauma patients. Candidates must have proficiency in vasopressor drips and titration, as well as general nursing skills. Experience working in a teaching hospital is preferred. There are multiple attending physicians present throughout the day. Charge nurses assist with patient management and do not routinely take assignments. Patient care technicians support nursing staff in the emergency department. Nurses are expected to interpret patient rhythms, and training will be provided for the monitoring equipment used. Lab draws are performed by both nurses and support staff. Shifts are structured as 12-hour rotations and scheduling considerations are accommodated where possible. Weekend work is required on a rotating basis, along with holiday availability. Travelers are not required to be on call or standby. Floating to other units is rare and typically does not involve travelers. There is no specific uniform color requirement, but tasteful scrubs are expected.
