Driver - Full Time

Overview This posting is for a full-time Driver position with Douglas County’s Douglas Area Rural Transit (DART). DART Drivers provide reliable, safe, and accessible transportation to key destinations, including shopping centers, medical facilities, and the Douglas County Community & Senior Center. Services include Dial-a-Ride and Fixed-Route operations, enabling community members to accomplish daily tasks. This posting describes the role and required qualifications for a DART Driver. Primary Duties And Responsibilities Inspects vehicle to ensure it is clean and operable; completes inspection paperwork; reports the need for service or repair; ensures routine maintenance is scheduled as required. Uses County vehicle to perform tasks related to job duties, following a pre-established schedule or on an on-call basis. Stops at locations to pick up and drop off passengers; assists passengers with disabilities in embarking and disembarking; may load and unload luggage or other items as required. Answers questions and provides information to passengers; may provide information to medical and social service providers regarding client status. Maintains driver log; documents client information for each trip as required. Transport of meals to homebound individuals when applicable; checks meal temperatures and reports findings to the designated record keeper; reports unusual circumstances to the Supervisor. Washes and cleans the interior and exterior of assigned vehicles; fuels the vehicle. May drive a handicapped-access vehicle to transport wheelchair users; assists individuals with wheelchair entry and exit from the vehicle. Assists individuals with physical needs in entry and exit of the vehicle. Participates in in-service training to update skills and learn techniques for dealing with various clients. Conducts duties in accordance with Federal Transportation Administration guidelines related to public transit. Represents the County with dignity and integrity in all relationships with staff and the public. Contributes to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals and activities. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience in transportation of passengers in a bus or van; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Certifications/Licenses Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement Certification on the effects and consequences of prohibited drug use within three (3) months of date of employment First Aid, CPR, and AED certification within six (6) months of date of employment Working Conditions Regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force. Regularly required to sit, speak or hear, use hands and perform repetitive motions; may require climbing, reaching, pushing or pulling; occasionally standing, walking, kneeling, or crawling. Standard vision, spoken communication, and hearing appropriate for job duties. Ability to prepare and analyze written or computer data, perform visual inspections, and operate vehicles and equipment. Work is generally in a loud environment (e.g., traffic, machinery) and may involve exposure to outdoor weather, moving parts, and various hazards. Acknowledgements Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates remaining active without suspension or revocation.
