Job Description
The Assistant Controller partners closely with the VP of Accounting to ensure that all accounting and finance activities comply with US GAAP and internal company policies. This role leads the day-to-day operations of the accounting function, including financial reporting, month-end close, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and the maintenance of robust internal controls within a government contracting environment.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the VP of Accounting to oversee all accounting and finance activities in accordance with US GAAP and company policies.
- Manage the daily operations of the accounting function, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Lead the month-end close process to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and analysis of financial statements and balance sheets.
- Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal controls.
- Support payroll processing and ensure proper recording of payroll-related transactions in the general ledger.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with audit requirements.
- Utilize Deltek Costpoint to manage accounting activities and produce accurate financial reports in a government contracting environment.
- Prepare for and support internal and external audits by providing documentation, explanations, and reconciliations as needed.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Lead, mentor, and support accounting team members to promote accuracy, efficiency, and professional development.
- Prioritize tasks and manage deadlines effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Travel up to 15% of the time as needed to support business and accounting activities.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of accounting and finance experience within a government contracting environment.
- At least 3 years of experience using Deltek Costpoint.
- Strong experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Proven leadership and team management experience.
- Thorough knowledge of US GAAP principles.
- Hands-on experience with financial reporting and financial statement preparation.
- Experience managing month-end close processes.
- Knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Strong analytic and observation skills, with the ability to interpret financial data.
- Ability to work within deadlines and effectively self-prioritize tasks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, macros, and VLOOKUP functions.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to travel up to 15% of the time as needed.

Work Environment
This role operates in a professional office environment with a hybrid schedule that includes in-office work and two days of work-from-home each week. The position involves regular use of financial systems and tools, including Deltek Costpoint and Microsoft Office, with a strong emphasis on Excel for reporting and analysis. The work environment is structured around deadlines, particularly during month-end close and reporting cycles, and requires strong attention to detail and adherence to internal controls. Occasional travel of up to 15% may be required to support business needs and collaborate with other locations or teams.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $67.00 - $77.00/hr.
