Gross Weekly Pay: $2,088.28 A Labor and Delivery (L&D) Registered Nurse cares for mothers and babies during childbirth and recovery. They track vital signs, monitor contractions and fetal heart rates, administer medications, assist physicians during vaginal or cesarean deliveries, and provide crucial emotional support and newborn care education. Key Responsibilities
- Patient Monitoring: Track maternal vital signs, cervical dilation, contractions, and electronic fetal heart rate patterns.
- Clinical Care: Administer IV fluids, pain management (including epidurals), and labor-inducing medications under medical orders.
- Delivery Assistance: Support obstetricians and midwives during vaginal births or prep and scrub in for surgical C-sections.
- Postpartum & Newborn Care: Assess maternal recovery, screen for postpartum hemorrhages or complications, and evaluate newborn stability (Apgar scoring).
- Emergency Response: Rapidly identify and manage obstetric emergencies, such as fetal distress or severe maternal bleeding.
- Education & Support: Guide families through the birth process, offer emotional reassurance, and teach basic newborn care and breastfeeding.
- Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Licensure: Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification.
