RADIATION THERAPY TECHNOLOGIST

The UHealth System at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a full time Radiation Therapy Technologist in the Radiation Oncology Department in the UTower hospital. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Administers doses of radiation to specific body parts, using radiation therapy equipment according to established practices and standards, as prescribed by the physician.
2. Positions patients for treatment with accuracy according to prescription.
3. Reviews prescription, diagnosis, patient chart, and identification.
4. Maintains records, reports, and files as required, including information such as radiation dosages, equipment settings and patient reactions.
5. Observes the patient's clinical progress and uses clinical decision-making skills to recognize and report any signs of complications.
6. Follows principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others. Adheres to the radiation safety procedure protocol.
7. Operates a variety of computerized simulation and treatment machines safely and effectively.
8. Performs and documents daily machine safety checks. Understands safe limits of equipment operations, and reports and identifies abnormalities or inconsistencies to the proper authority.
9. Constructs immobilization devices and employs custom blocking techniques that are conducive to conformal radiation therapy.
10. Utilizes sophisticated imaging equipment and treatment planning systems for precise tumor localization.
11. Works closely with the Radiation Oncologist and the therapy team in the preparation of a treatment plan that is customized to the patient's needs.
12. Performs simulations according to physician's orders.
13. Acts as a resource therapist for all staff members. Understands and trouble-shoots general technological equipment necessary to the department to ensure safe, appropriate & effective patient care.

Education:
Associate degree in relevant field required
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required
Certification and Licensing:
Valid State of Florida Registered Radiation Therapy license required
