Basic Function Develop and implement programs for major gifts and planned giving by identifying and cultivating donors to provide financial resources for GC2 and the overall work of Texas Baptists. Responsibilities / Tasks Make solicitation calls to individuals, donors, or groups with other BGCT staff or individually to promote BGCT and its needs. Develop and maintain a viable network of prospects and donors for current, deferred, and estate gifts through correspondence and personal visits. Develop and coordinate informational mailings and seminars promoting mission giving opportunities and charitable estate planning. Work with the President to coordinate planned giving and the major gifts program, and to coordinate the donor portfolio system. Assist leadership in identifying options for improving current donor development programs. Monitor trends in development practices and legislation on state and federal levels and notify leadership of all relevant changes; be knowledgeable of current tax laws and planned giving principles. Establish an annual detailed plan of activity to carry out planned giving and major donor development programs to meet organizational needs as expressed in GC2Strong. Develop and execute documents to follow up on planned giving and estate planning programs. Work with the Foundation Council as required. Assist staff to maintain complete and accurate donor records. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with attorneys, CPAs, and other financial professionals who may be resources of referral for donor prospects. Assist in the collection of mission success stories and the preparation of reports to donors; maintain a relevant and current list of mission opportunities for donors. Prepare and report statistics on prospect and donor responses and cultivation activities to leadership. Encourage pastors and laypersons to lead churches to increase the cooperative giving percentage and maintain sensitivity to the cooperative giving plans. Prepare and proofread letters, memos, spreadsheets, and other correspondence accurately. Attend staff meetings and external meetings as required. Review and accurately process mail and other correspondence promptly. Maintain compliance with all BGCT policies, procedures, and guidelines. Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements. Perform special assignments and other duties as required. Position Requirements, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requires in-depth understanding of a comprehensive field of knowledge, generally acquired through an earned bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3+ years of proven development experience. Requires active membership in a church supportive of the BGCT during employment. Commitment to Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally, with an understanding and commitment to Baptist distinctives. Requires proficient working knowledge of donor development, fundraising, and public relations laws and regulations governing the organization and employees. Requires general knowledge of a total local church program and the Texas and SBC programs of mission support. Requires knowledge of current laws and tax regulations relative to current and planned gifts, estate planning, retirement planning, and financial planning principles. Requires practical knowledge of planned giving software, fundraising software, and personal computer applications. Ability to develop a program budget required. Requires the ability to plan and conduct conferences with emphasis on charitable planned giving and estate planning. Requires travel to various geographic locations regularly, including travel by car, with some overnight and weekend stays required. Requires proficient donor management skills. Requires proficient ability to exhibit detail-oriented skills necessary to understand and manage a wide range of information from a vast number of entities. Requires proficient ability to speak, read, and write English. Requires the ability to use up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Required work deals mostly with areas such as preparing and reading data and figures, reports, and visual inspection involving small details. Although important, depth perception and field of vision (peripheral) are not as critical as the ability to distinguish small details and markings very near to the observer. Requires the ability to speak clearly and make oneself understood in face‑to‑face interactions; to articulate with accuracy on the telephone. Requires ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, churches, Baptist constituents, and a variety of individuals, groups, and publics. Requires the ability to work under pressure and remain flexible as priorities change; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, and speak in front of groups. Requires ability to work under minimal supervision; exercise excellent professional judgment and maintain confidentiality. Requires the ability to provide effective leadership through excellent interpersonal skills. Requires professionalism in the workplace to include professional and accurate communication with others. Requires proficient working knowledge and ability to use various office software, including, but not limited to, Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Salesforce, FENXT, Google email, and internet skills.
