Registered Nurse (RN) - L&D

Job Summary Under minimal supervision, provides nursing care for a group of patients assigned to the nurse based on matching the patients’ needs with the nurse’s competencies. Completes established competencies within the designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned. Responsibilities Assess human responses and adaptation to actual or potential health problems of the patient, family and/or significant other. Initiate a plan for patient care based on the initial assessment and continuously evaluate interventions; reassess patient needs on an ongoing basis. Recognize changing patient condition and utilize unit resources, chain of command and Rapid Response Team (RRT) in a timely manner. Document all plans and care provided. Identify need for education of patient, family and/or significant other and provide education through individualized instruction and written materials or other resources. Assign nursing care to licensed staff, delegate nursing care to unlicensed staff and coordinate the flow of work. Calculate and administer medications. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members in planning and management of patient care. Participate in discharge planning and provide instruction to patient/family. Maintain and promote professional standards and development by participating in in‑services, committees, staff meetings. Serve as a role model for compassionate care and service excellence and commit to Studer Principles and “must haves.” Facilitate patient movement within the department and facility, proactively managing admissions, discharges and transfers. Manage patient hand‑offs at shift change and between departments and facilities; utilize documentation tools for hand‑offs as required. Provide every patient the defined standard of care (e.g., core measures, chest pain protocol). Utilize resources efficiently and effectively. Maintain a safe environment. Address patient population–specific needs (clinical). Participate in performance improvement activities. Qualifications Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree. Minimum Experience: None. Preferred Experience: Two years in acute care; previous clinical nursing experience. Required Certifications/License: Current Texas State License for Registered Nurse. Required Courses/Completions Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire. AHA ACLS completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role (Labor & Delivery). AHA NRP completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role (Labor & Delivery or any nurse floated into L&D). Fetal Monitoring – L&D and Antepartum: Novice RNs must complete GNOSIS introduction to Fetal Heart Monitoring within 30 days of hire; AWHONN Intermediate Heart Monitoring within 8 months of L&D orientation. Experienced L&D RNs (>1 yr) must have AWHONN Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring on hire or within 90 days. S.T.A.B.L.E. – Level 2 Nursery: Must provide proof of prior completion or obtain within 6 months of hire or transfer into unit (renewal not required). AHA PALS completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role (Pediatrics).
