Transportation - Bus DriverCompensation: $22.85 per hour after completing full training, $16.61 per hour during training. Part Time, 25 hours per week. Extra assignment opportunities available. Summers off! Nine (9) month working calendar.Overview: Transporting CRCSD students during morning and afternoon routes, including tie-ins while managing and mitigating student behavior.Classification: Non-ExemptEssential Duties:Safely transport students to and from school, activities, etc.Effectively and appropriately manage student behaviorsMaintain a cooperative attitude and build rapport with students, peers, supervisors, parents, school personnel, and the communityUse effective and professional verbal and written communication skillsPresent self in a professional manner including attire and being alert and attentiveSuccessfully complete all required trainings, meetings, classes and professional developmentWork together as a team to keep interior and exterior of vehicle clean, safe and presentableQuickly and safely evacuate vehicle in case of an emergencyCheck student roster to ensure proper ridershipMaintain current knowledge of all student requirements, such as medical protocols, IEP's, etc. and respond appropriately to events by following written protocolsWhile students are exiting, check vehicle for remaining/lost students, items, etc.Properly secure students in required safety equipment and restraints (i.e. wheelchairs, harnesses, etc.)Safely assist non-ambulatory students into and out of the vehicleAccurately complete reports and paperwork in a timely manner. Including, vehicle maintenance requests, student behavior referrals, timecards, directions, etc.Abide by federal law, state law, and district policies, procedures, and expectationsUtilize technology when requiredConsistently perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post trip inspectionsImmediately report accidentsEnsure vehicle is properly fueled according to department policyPrepare vehicle for student transport including inclement weather, harnesses, wheelchair tie downs, etc.Safely and appropriately operate various types of school buses and equipment, including wheelchair lifts, radios, and emergency equipmentReport any safety or maintenance concerns to appropriate personnel in a timely mannerClean bus as designated by department proceduresPerform bus driving tie in assignments (eg. transport athletic teams right before route)Transport students for EOS, Special Ed, or other ad hock district needsTeam leader - communicate information to assigned team members, check staff in at punch in time, alert Fleet Supervisor of issues, etc.Complete general clerical duties, including phone support, sorting/filing paperwork, etc.Check spare vehicle fleet to ensure it is in operable condition (pre-trip, fueling, operational testing, etc.)Complete extra cleaning duties in vehicles and within the building (not generally completed by janitorial staff)Assist office or maintenance staff with special projectsAnd other duties as assigned.Minimum Requirements:Must be at least 18 years of ageObtain and maintain a minimum of a valid Class B CDL license, with proper endorsementObtain and maintain a valid DOT physical and valid Medical Certificate, per FMCSA requirementsPass pre-employment and all: subsequent agility testsPass pre-employment and all: subsequent driving history checksPass pre-employment and periodic background history checksPass a pre-employment substance abuse screeningPass all random alcohol and/or drug testsPass all reasonable suspicion alcohol and/or drug testsRegister and maintain an account with the FMCSA ClearinghouseMust approve CRCSD queries with the FMCSA Clearinghouse within 24 hoursWork well with others, including all personality typesEffective problem-solving skillsKnowledge of, or ability to navigate, Cedar Rapids and surrounding areasHave and use effective verbal and written communication skillsEffectively manage student behaviorAccept and implement coaching and trainingConsistently perform thorough and accurate pre-trip and post trip inspectionsProfessional driving experience preferred, but not requiredPhysical Demands:Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of timeAscending and descending approximately 14" steps regularlyEntering and exiting vehicles regularlyDescend from back door of vehicle in emergencies onto uncertain surfacesRepeatedly lifting and carrying students or object(s) weighing up to 75 pounds for 100 or more feetRepeatedly pushing and pulling wheelchairs/objects(s) weighing up to 75 pounds for 100 or more feetContinuous use of hands, fingers, and wrists repetitivelyUsing both hands and legs simultaneouslyRepeated stooping, bending, and kneelingOccasional pushing, pulling and maintaining balanceReach over head to approximately 72" height to open wheelchair lift door and operate lift mechanismRapid mental/muscular coordinationVerbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate mannerAccurate depth perceptionClarity of vision at varying distances to see small detailsOperate mobile motorized equipmentDrive a vehicle to conduct workHazards:Possible contact with blood borne pathogens and/or bodily fluidsContact with chemicals used for cleaning busesThe information contained in this job description is in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (A.D.A) and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position.
