Facilities Ops Specialist - BOF - Central Area (Galveston)

Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or recognized equivalent. Journeyman-level trade or craft with 6 years’ experience maintaining a healthcare facility. Training or licensure provided by one of the following: Texas State License NCCER Certification UTMB-approved Certifications Community College certification or an Associate degree Must be capable of demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job in a post‑offer employment test as administered by UTMB Rehab Services. This job requires the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. from the floor to the knuckle and requires frequent bending, standing, and walking. Job Summary Perform at a journeyman level in at least three (3) distinct industrial/commercial trade crafts as approved by Facilities Operations and Management (Physical Plant Maintenance) or master level in one or more of the following trades/crafts (Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation/Electronics, HVAC, Structural, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms) for work associated with research and healthcare specialized systems. Must have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Joint Commission requirements and standards, NFPA 101 2012, NFPA 110 2012, NFPA 99 2012, Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI), and ASHRAE/ASHE Standard 170. Preferred License Master's Electrical License and/or 10 years equivalent experience. Job Duties Performs journeyman or master level electrical work in the designing, construction, installation, programming, maintenance, and operation of specialized systems of UTMB. Coordinates commissioning of specialized systems on new construction or renovation projects. Maintains proper electrical building operating parameters to maintain the integrity of specialized systems. Creates spreadsheets (or by other means) and maintains records for reporting requirements. Confers with users and management in order to gain an understanding of their needs and/or provides technical advice. Uses system expert skills and current diagnostic techniques to identify equipment problems and repairs. Proctors staff in proper maintenance strategies and assists with training requirements. Makes recommendations for scope, major repairs, and budget on equipment purchases and installs. Reads and interprets technical manuals. Also, provides "marked up" blueprints/drawings for corrections when needed. Performs work from written or verbal instructions, specifications, blueprints, or wiring diagrams. Designs and performs advanced predictive maintenance on specialized electrical equipment and systems. Salary Range Actual salary commensurate with experience. Working Environment Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory, and/or office environments. May be exposed to such occupational hazards such as communicable diseases and harmful chemicals. Some exposure to weather and physical hazards. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards and may be required to work in high locations or crawlspaces. Exposure to areas under construction. Usual working conditions found in craft shops and mechanical rooms. Exposure to adverse weather conditions or temperature extremes. Exposure to electrical/mechanical hazards. Proper safety and precaution must be closely observed when operating and repairing specialized equipment and systems. Climb ladders and stairways and work on building rooftops at high elevations. Work in confined spaces such as ceilings, under-floor crawlspaces, and manholes. May be required to work extended hours or rotating shifts.
