Investment Analyst

Assist in fundamental credit research to evaluate investment opportunities and monitor existing municipal bond holdings Analyze issuer financial statements, budgets, news alerts, economic trends, and political and public policy developments across municipal sectors Build, maintain, and enhance financial models and analytical tools assessing credit quality and relative value Conduct independent research on emerging credit themes, market developments, and investment opportunities Participate in issuer meetings, industry conferences, rating agency discussions, and investor calls Assist in preparing investment recommendations, credit opinions, and presentations for portfolio managers and stakeholders Identify opportunities to improve research processes, data management, analytical frameworks, and workflow efficiency through AI and workflow automation Collaborate with analysts across sectors and contribute to broader Public Credit Research initiatives Network with issuers, rating agency analysts, and sell-side professionals in the municipal bond market Requirements Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Public Policy, Political Science, Government or a related field 0-2+ years of relevant experience in credit research, fixed income investing, public finance, government, or economic research Demonstrated intellectual curiosity in investing, public policy, financial analysis, and economics Ability to synthesize information from across disciplines Understanding of financial statements, accounting concepts, and financial modeling Strong quantitative and analytical skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Experience with AI and workflow automation applications such as CoPilot, Visual Studio Code, and Power Automate is a plus Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously Self-starter who takes ownership of projects and pursues opportunities with limited direction Team-oriented and able to contribute positively to an intellectually rigorous investment environment Progress toward or willingness to pursue the CFA designation is a plus Required to affirm to HIMCO’s Code of Ethics and comply with disclosure of accounts, holdings, and pre-clearance of trades Covered Associates must disclose political contributions given within the past 2 calendar years Core Competencies Demonstrates strong analytical and quantitative skills in credit research and financial modeling, with a solid understanding of financial statements and public finance.
