Payroll Specialist

$25 - $35 per hour

Mechanics Bank is currently searching for a full‑time Payroll Specialist to join our team. This role will be working on‑site. Job Overview Under general supervision of the Payroll Supervisor, performs routine and complex tasks relating to the processing of the semi‑monthly payroll. Duties include checking and auditing timekeeping records for compliance with established standards, maintaining time and attendance records and miscellaneous changes, accounting and clerical duties related to issuance of the semi‑monthly payrolls. Provides quality customer service to all clients while exhibiting a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality in handling sensitive employee information. What you will do Process the semi‑monthly payrolls using various time and attendance systems and Workday payroll system. Audit salary increases, retro pay and absence tracking. Record wage attachments, prior period adjustments and non‑benefit ongoing payroll deductions. Prepare voluntary and involuntary termination checks and provide required funding to Finance. Maintain strong knowledge of the payroll reporting functions. Responsible for quarterly reporting of multiple worksite reporting to the Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics and various government agencies. Assist Payroll Supervisor with internal audit during the audit process, provide documents, reports and other payroll items upon request. Complete verification of employment forms and record wage information for financial institutions as requested. Complete and verify information for all unemployment claims. Handle confidential work with HRBP or Employee Relations department. Who you are High School or GED required. 3 years minimum intermediate‑level individual contributor experience required. 2 year associate degree preferred. Workday experience preferred. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree. Knowledge of payroll and accounting principles, modern office practices, data processing, laws pertaining to payroll, record‑keeping techniques. Good human relations and communication skills with good judgment. Team spirit in working with others, communicating openly and cooperatively. Maintains confidentiality regarding professional matters. High level of accuracy and problem‑solving skills with excellent attention to detail. Works well under time constraints and manages time effectively to process payrolls for multiple companies simultaneously. Good organizational skills. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Compensation Pay Range: $25.00 – $35.00 hourly. Annual Incentive Plan Bonus up to 5%. Final compensation package will be determined by work experience, education, and/or skill level along with internal equity and geographic market data.
