Operating Room RN First Assistant (RNFA) - Robotic Surgery (Da Vinci) Shift Details

• 3x12-hour shifts
• 36 or 48 hours per week
• Monday-Friday, day shifts
• On-call responsibilities per unit need (until 11pm only)
• No weekends
• Holiday requirements per unit need

Position Overview

• The RNFA is a highly trained RN who must have both a CNOR certification and have completed an RNFA program offered through a college or university
• Collaborates with the surgeon and the healthcare team in performing a safe operation with optimal outcomes for the patient
• Practices perioperative nursing and must have acquired the necessary knowledge, skill, and judgment specific to clinical practice in the operating room and in the RNFA role
• Practices in collaboration with and at the direction of the surgeon in the operative phase of the perioperative experience
• Performs duties of OR staff RN when not assigned in RNFA role
• Combined Circulator/Scrub and RNFA role

Job Requirements

• NYS Registered Professional Nurse license (NY License ONLY)
• Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant course
• CNOR certification required
• Two (2) years of OR experience; Level 1 trauma experience preferred
• Proficient in perioperative nursing practice
• Preferred scrubbing and circulating experience
• Da Vinci robotic surgery experience required, including:
  • Robotic Urology
  • Robotic GYN
  • Robotic Colorectal
  • Robotic Surgical Oncology (Whipples, gastrectomies, hernias, etc.)
  • Robotic Thoracic
  • Robotic General Surgery (gallbladders, appendectomies)

Certifications

• BLS - American Heart Association ONLY - Required
• ACLS - American Heart Association ONLY - Preferred
• CNOR Certification - Required

Skills

• RN License (NY License ONLY) - Required
• BLS Certification (American Heart Association ONLY) - Required
• Two (2) years of experience - Required
• Able to scrub and circulate - Preferred
