Electronics Design EngineerAnalytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electronics Design Engineer to join our team supporting the Research, Science and Engineering Services (RSES) contract at the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA.The ideal candidate will play a critical role in designing, developing, and integrating electronic systems for cutting-edge projects. This requires a self-starter who thrives in a collaborative environment and is capable of following designs through the entire lifecycle—from concept to manufacturing, assembly, and testing. The role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including scientists, project managers, and engineers from various branches, to deliver high-quality solutions for flight missions.The salary range for this position is $85k-$140k, commensurate with education and experience.U.S. Citizenship is required.Key Responsibilities:Design and develop electronic circuits, from the component perspective, including power systems, amplifiers, DACS, high speed digital, and mixed signal designsDesign and develop intra-system harnessingIntegrate cameras, lasers, data storage, computational systems, and science instrumentation into designsModify and adapt designs to meet specific mission requirements for computational camera systemsUtilize Altium Designer for circuit design and PSPICE for simulationCollaborate with external vendors for PCB fabrication and perform board population as neededConduct functional testing, troubleshooting, and assembly of electronic systemsPrepare detailed documentation, including schematics, BOMs, and test proceduresWork closely with manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure seamless manufacturing and deliveryCommunicate effectively with project managers, scientists, and engineers across avionics, software, thermal/structural, and mechanical design teamsOccasionally support overtime efforts to meet delivery deadlines for flight missionsWork alongside technicians and interact with software, thermal/structural, mechanical design teams, and project personnelEngage with scientists, project managers, and chief engineers to ensure mission successCollaborate with a team of engineers from the Electronics Systems Branch, including avionics leads, FPGA designers, and electronic designersMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field3+ years of experience in electronic design and development.Familiarity with Altium Designer for circuit design, and PSPICE for simulation, or similar design and simulation tools.Hands-on experience with circuit design, simulation, and integrationFamiliarity with manufacturing and assembly processes for electronic systemsCandidates must possess strong written and oral communication skillsThe role is oriented toward delivery for flight missions and requires adaptability to evolving requirementsPreferred Qualifications:Proficiency in Altium Designer and PSPICE simulation toolsProficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointExperience with electronic hardware design and parts selectionStrong understanding of power electronics, EMI/EMC considerations, signal integrity, high speed digital, and mixed signal circuit principlesFamiliarity with PCB fabrication processes and board populationStrong integration skills, particularly with cameras, lasers, data storage, computational systems, and science instrumentationAbility to troubleshoot, test, and characterize electronic systemsHands-on experience with lab equipment, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzersPrior experience with spaceflight hardware is a plus, but not requiredKnowledge of Stereo Cameras for Lunar Plume Surface Studies (SCALPSS) systems and their modifications for various missions is advantageous.Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
