Health Services Substitute
Perform health services duties in the absence of the regular Health Services Professional. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent. Preferred certifications include Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Registered Nurse (RN). Must have CPR/First Aid certification. Ability to quickly learn procedures used to report information and maintain records. Ability to travel to more than one work location in the course of the day if assigned to an itinerant position. Ability to prepare required written reports. Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Reports to the designated individual upon arrival at the school. Provides first-aid services following established standards of practice. Demonstrates a willingness to work with all students. Administers and/or assists students with medication during school hours. Documents medication administration in medication log. Maintains a daily log of student visits to the clinic. Maintains confidentiality and integrity of student health records. Maintains student confidentiality. Maintains HIPAA standards as required. Maintains standards of practice regarding universal precautions. Reports student incidents or accidents to appropriate administrator as deemed necessary. Reports in writing on the day's activities at the conclusion of each day. Follows all policies, rules and procedures. Remains in the building or on school grounds during the hours assigned as a Substitute. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Performs other duties as assigned.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Possess familiarity with the duties of a school Health Services Provider. Demonstrates some knowledge of the principles and methodologies of nursing. Possesses ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Possesses the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, & the public. Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer. See and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone. Possess the physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds, ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and to reach overhead.
Reports to: Principal and Director of Human Resources Terms of Employment: Salary according to School Board Pay Plan. Evaluation: Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations.
