The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) enriches people's lives through education and stewardship of North Carolina's natural and cultural resources. DNCR manages over 100 locations across the state, including historic sites, museums, state parks, trails, aquariums, the North Carolina Zoo, the Library of North Carolina, the State Archives, the North Carolina Arts Council, the African American Heritage Commission, the American Indian Heritage Commission, the State Historic Preservation Office, the Office of State Archaeology, the Highway Historical Markers program, the North Carolina Land and Water Fund, and the Natural Heritage Program. The Office of the Governor is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Executive Director to oversee both the operations and events of the Governor's Mansion.

The Executive Director of the North Carolina Governor's Mansion provides executive leadership and operational oversight for the Governor's Mansion, staff, programs, events, and public-facing activities. The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that the Mansion operates with the highest standards of hospitality, professionalism, discretion, security awareness, historic preservation and fiscal stewardship.

Serving as a key member of the Governor's Operations Team, the Executive Director works closely with the Governor, First Family, senior leadership team, state agencies, legislators, community leaders, donors, and other stakeholders. The position requires exceptional judgment, diplomacy, organizational leadership, and the ability to manage sensitive and high-profile matters with confidentiality and professionalism.

The Executive Director oversees the Mansion as both a private residence and an important symbol of the State, ensuring that its historic character, public responsibilities, and ceremonial functions are maintained to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Providing strategic leadership and day-to-day executive oversight of Mansion operations.
• Establishing and maintaining policies, procedures, standards, and protocols for Mansion operations and events.
• Serving as the principal administrative liaison among the Governor's Office, Mansion staff, state agencies, contractors, vendors, and external stakeholders.
• Advising the Governor and First Family on Mansion operations, hospitality, events, protocol, and related matters.
• Exercising sound judgment in handling confidential, sensitive, and time-critical matters.
• Developing and managing operating budgets, expenditures, contracts, purchasing, and financial controls.
• Ensuring compliance with applicable state laws, policies, regulations, and administrative requirements.

Applicants who possess the following are preferred:

• Experience supervising employees and providing direction, performance management, training, and professional development.
• Experience developing and implementing policies, procedures, and operational processes.
• Experience managing budgets, expenditures, purchasing, contracts, vendors, and other administrative resources.
• Experience coordinating projects, meetings, events, or programs involving multiple departments, agencies, or external stakeholders as well as the demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of individuals and organizations.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution AND Five (5) years of experience related to the area of assignment OR An equivalent combination of training and experience.
