Under the general supervision of the Assistant Town Treasurer/Collector, the Office Assistant serves as the first point of contact for residents when paying for taxes, parking tickets, and other Town services. This position provides excellent customer service to residents and clerical support for the office. The entry‑level position is ideal for candidates who possess knowledge of office applications, computer applications, and payment intake, and who have strong communication skills. Duties and Responsibilities Perform cashiering functions, including collection and processing of payments for taxes and Town services. Record cash receipts and prepare related reports. Enter data on payments received by mail, including parking tickets and fire alarm charges. Record weekly payroll and monthly pension payments from the check register; calculate totals for manual checks and reconcile with payroll. Receive, deposit, and reconcile monthly ambulance charges. Prepare accounts payable checks for distribution. Administer the front desk—receiving, screening, and directing phone calls, visitors, and correspondence to appropriate personnel. Provide general information and reception service for the department. Provide clerical assistance to the department. Assist with agenda preparation and other analysis and reports for the department, as needed. Provide effective and efficient customer service and promote responsive community relations. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent, plus elementary technical training acquired on the job or through one year or less of technical or business school. Between one (1) and three (3) years of related experience. Knowledge of office administration, computer skills, basic bookkeeping, and automated office systems and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with others, both verbally and in writing, with strong interpersonal and telephone skills.
