Water/Wastewater Engineer

An established and rapidly growing water technology company is seeking a Professional Engineer (PE) with strong expertise in process engineering for water and wastewater treatment systems. This position will play a key role in the design, optimization, and execution of complex treatment projects serving industrial and municipal clients across North America. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical engineering capabilities with hands-on project experience and a passion for solving challenging water treatment issues. About the Role Process Engineer (PE) – Water & Wastewater Treatment Location: Washington State Preferred (Hybrid/Flexible) Responsibilities Lead process design and engineering for water and wastewater treatment projects from concept through commissioning. Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, mass balances, equipment specifications, and treatment system designs. Conduct process evaluations, pilot studies, system troubleshooting, and performance optimization. Support project teams through detailed engineering, construction, startup, and operational phases. Interface directly with clients, consultants, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders. Review and approve engineering calculations, technical reports, and design documentation. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and project teams. Support business development activities by assisting with technical proposals, presentations, and client meetings. Ensure compliance with applicable industry regulations, design standards, and permitting requirements. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required. 8+ years of experience in water and wastewater treatment engineering. Strong knowledge of treatment processes including physical, chemical, and biological systems. Experience designing and implementing complex treatment solutions for industrial and/or municipal applications. Proficiency with engineering calculations, process modeling, equipment selection, and system optimization. Strong communication and client-facing skills. Experience with process evaluations, pilot studies, and system troubleshooting. Ability to interface with clients, consultants, regulatory agencies, and internal stakeholders. Technical leadership and mentorship abilities. Business development support skills including proposals and presentations. Preferred Skills Experience with municipal drinking water treatment systems. Background in advanced treatment technologies such as membrane systems, filtration, biological treatment, nutrient removal, reuse, or high-strength industrial wastewater. Previous consulting engineering, EPC, technology provider, or design-build experience. Project management experience and ability to oversee multidisciplinary teams.
