Pathology Grossing Assistant at NYU Langone Health Position Summary The role involves gross examination and dissection of anatomic pathology biopsy specimens, preparation for histological processing, and documentation. Job Responsibilities Reconcile specimen accessioning and labeling logs, containers, blocks, and requisitions. Assist supervisor with assigned duties. Support QA/QI initiatives and compliance with CAP, NYSDOH, and Joint Commission standards in the gross room. Assist in organization and coordination of anatomic pathology conferences. Maintain laboratory, clean workstations, maintain equipment, sterilize instruments, manage waste, and notify supervisor of low inventory. Dissect specimens according to protocols, prepare tissue for histology or frozen sections, and perform special procedures (flow cytometry, electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry, faxitron imaging, tumor triage). Photograph all appropriate gross specimens and microscopic slides. Correlate specimen information with attending pathologist. Dictate gross descriptions according to protocols and templates, ensuring accuracy of color, measurement, shape, weight. Review gross descriptions for accuracy and completion. Integrate clinical information into analysis and interpretation. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, biology, or related field. At least one year of experience in a surgical pathology laboratory, including gross dissection and dictation of surgical biopsy specimens. NYSDOH license as a clinical laboratory histotechnician, technician, or technologist. Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently. Salary Range $88,230.00 – $89,000.00 annually (NYC salary transparency).
