About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Duration: 26 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:00) Experience: Minimum 1 year in ICU License: RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Must-Have: - Experience in ICU (first timers okay) - Ability to float to other ICU and Med-Surg units as needed - Availability for every other weekend Description: Offering up to 26 weeks. Holidays are required. 36 or 48 hours available. No request time off for the first 8 days of the contract. Patient ratios are 1:1-4 based on acuity. The unit consists of both PCU and ICU patients. PCU and general medicine/transfer patients can be grouped based on acuity. Ventilator patients will have a 2:1 ratio. Cooling, CRRT, or high acuity patients will have a 1:1 ratio. Staff must be available to float to other ICU and Med-Surg units. Typical nurse to patient ratio on Med-Surg is approximately 5-6 patients per RN. Will work with patients diagnosed with COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib. The unit includes procedures such as CRRT, HD, A-Line placement, CVC placement, tracheostomy placement, and chest tube placement. Special equipment includes Cooling Machines, Bair Huggers, massive transfusions, and CRRT. Required skills include cardiac monitoring, emergency response, management of dysrhythmias, multi-system organ failure, IV therapy management, and care for ventilated patients. The unit typically manages around 3 ventilated patients per day. Additional procedures and responsibilities may include assisting with BiPAP management, interpretation of ABGs, and various emergency medications. Interdisciplinary support is provided by various healthcare professionals. Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with a daily census of approximately 15 patients. The unit consists of 20 beds. Additional procedures and emergency response duties may be required per patient needs.
